I admire the bravery of anyone who takes this project on. Glasswork is my biggest weakness. In the years when I did construction, I broke so much glass I'm sure I will have bad luck for centuries. So needless to say I stay away from windshields. Side windows are easy enough though.
In an unrelated story, a guy once broke into my 79 BMW 320 by removing the seal on the rear window. He was kind enough to carefully unhook the rear defogger lines before destroying my dashboard for the crappy stereo that did not even work properly!

I dont think its a 3 person job. Sure more people may make it easier but Ive done both front and rear seals on a w123 and a w108 by myself and it wasnt too bad. The w123 was easier becasue the glass is curved less. Its definitly DIYer material.

Bart, I am pretty sure that that last post nominates and obligates you to write the FAQ page for doing the windshields and backglass rubber replacements.... :p Greg

OH, Bill, you are such a babe in the woods.... That glass is HEAVY ,,,, and on those that are sealed with urethane.... . you have to put it right where it needs to go without a lot of sliding around...not an easy placement if doing it alone... that is why I want Bart to write what he knows first so we will have his guidance when we ( I mean you ) try it...Remember, we are not shooting for " funniest home pictures " when you do this...

Thanks for your vote of confidence. I posted near the start of this topic my words of wisdom for all who may follow. Just get some silicone spray, which doesnt dry out quickly as dishwashing detergent(which works pretty well too) and you will definitly have a blast I'm sure Now taking pics and doing the work is NOT a one man job, although it could be argued that it is!

If you had your windshield replaced by a glass shop with OEM glass, how much did it cost you?
I'm thinking Sigla, Sekurit, Pilkington, and the like...

I did my rear window seals for $160 I think (seal+labor) at a glass shop and I think I will definitely get him to do my windshield because he knew so much about these MB's.

He did it all by himself BTW.
