I was just out in Northern California purchasing an old Silver Streak camper and the guy tells me his 2001 F450 has to be sold out of state or scrapped in the next few months. It's hard to believe the government can force an older vehicle to meet newer emission standards than the model year it was certified for.
Are our 617's next?

Sorry to get off topic TooMuchBoost. I also had Benzforce build my pump. I have yet to install it, but Rodney is good people. I did learn later its necessary to upgrade to an electric fuel pump. He suggests a holley black, but after reading too many reviews about them being loud, Id like to explore alternatives.

Can't imagine the pumps going to be heard over our engine noise... I also had Rodney do my pump, and had Mike Stam do my Intake. Both turned out really nice. I'm working on engine slowly to get it ready to put them on.

1985 Euro 300TDT giving it some love thread...

Post Ca Diesel & DMV

I'd like to hear the full details on the 2001 Ford Diesel, my son's 2003 Chevy Diesel rigs isn't being targeted, I know some people who have the Cummins powered Dodge diesel trucks and not a peep out of DMV from anyo of them .

The Ca. DMV has a snitch line you can call to report a smoky vehicle, my ex father in law used to have a battered Isuzu diesel pickup and got a vague letter from the DMV about it and panicked ~ he was sure he needed to rebuild the engine or sell it on but it was just a B.S. scare letter....

Maybe the 2001 Ford guy was rolling coal like many retards do and got a ticket ~ that's how my son got his 2003 Chevy ~ a Mexican guy changed the entire intake so some Chinese trash noisy don't filter thing and got ticketed, my son bought the five year old truck in *perfect* condition for less than scrap price, bought a good used intake off a wreck and is still driving the living snot out of it and laughing all the way to the bank .

Lots of "!! IT CAN'T BE SMOGGED !!" vehicles out there cheap as dirt, easy to repair and re sell.....

Vwnate,
The details are the truck is above 14000 GVW and has a utility flatbed. He said he got a letter from DMV that it can no longer be registered unless it meets newer emission standards, the details of the standards I do not know. Lesser GVW is exempt.
Truck is stock and does not roll coal, he lives way in the woods in Trinity County. Shasta-Trinity national forest.
Sorry to be off post.

Back on it...

I thought my pump was bad and contacted Bosch North America for their recommended builders. They recommended D&W diesel in New York state. It was a horrible experience dealing with them and I recommend D&W to no one. I had not discovered this forum yet so I learned the hard and expensive ($1200) way.

Wasn't the state trying to restrict out of state truckers from coming into California who aren't compliant with that rule?

I could have sworn there was some sort of federal injunction against it because the law clearly hits up against the commerce clause of the constitution.

I just don't see how the state can legally remove vehicles, commercial or otherwise, from the road because they decide to retroactively remove them.

Thanx Alex ;

Unless it's a non California certified vehicle I can't see this .

Ask to see the letter ~ as a shop owner I've heard it all and when it gets to brass tacks there's always something they 'forgot' to tell you .

If this is legit, SHAME on the DMV ! .

Othet diesel programs

Periodic Smoke Inspection Program

The Periodic Smoke Inspection Program
requires owners of California-based fleets
of two or more diesel vehicles to perform
annual smoke opacity tests and to keep
records for at least two years for each
vehicle. The requirement does not apply
to cars or trucks that must undergo a
Smog Check.

Heavy-Duty Vehicle Inspection Program

The Heavy-Duty Vehicle Inspection Program uses random roadside
inspections to verify that diesel engines do not smoke excessively
and are tamper-free.

Here they come.

Thank you VicS,

Wow! That's quite a document. It's unbelievable HD older diesel trucks in Calif must now meet 2010 and above emission standards, not the standard of year of manufacture. Yes... Here they come, and we are next.
