TD question

Dont know much about the TDs, went to look at one FS today and have a couple questions on repairs/costs.

Seller admits the turbo needs replacing, it whines under load, like a bad bearing. What do these things cost to rebuild/replace?

Rear suspension is low and didnt visibly pump up on starting. Assuming its not a simple adjustment, what are the possible faults? I hear alot on here about some part that is NLA and cant be rebuilt either. What is that part? If it cant be replaced or rebuilt, are folks just trashing the car?

Thanks

Check the fluid in the suspension. That is the most common issue I have run across.
Struts are NLA, but they rarely go bad.

Used Turbos are a couple of hindered dollars. You can check the prices on ebay. If you pulled one from the Junk Yard it would cost a lot less.

You might even find fully rebuilt turbos on ebay. At least you could see an approximate price.

It depends on what is causing the wining under load. It could just be the sound of the pressure leaking out of a leak or it could be the compressor wheel rubbing on the compressor housing. If that is what happened it would entail more then just replacing the bearings.
Since one way or anther the Turbo has to come off once it is off you can take it apart and find out what you think might be causing the issues.

Before removing the tubo you can spray a cold engine down with a mix of water and dawn dish soap made into a mix that you can blow bubbles with. Once sprayed on a cold engine and the engine is started and revved up if there is an air pressure leak or an exhaust leak you will see bubbles.

Regarding the sls: I rebuilt/resealed my pump and valve. It was easy with kits and instructions. They were probably working fine, because what I found was both the lever on the sway bar and lever on the valve were loose. (Same with everything else!) If there is no obvious leaking, check those first. If you disconnect the two levers, by moving the valve lever with the engine running you can tell if the sls is working.
