Are you objecting to the BlueTEC technology itself or the administrative aspects of the settlement? (Please be specific.)

To start with the pollution systems where I though mandated with a federal law covererage for X number of years. Truthfully I do not know the length of it and it may have been shortened. As I live in Canada.

That I never see any mention of this on site makes me wonder. I do know the federal directed warranty was longer then the manufactures portion given. On the pollution control systems.

My personal opinion has not changed. Cars with the DEF system should be used primarily on the highways to reduce potential maintenance costs with the system.

It is not mentioned often either why the cheating system was initiated. My understanding was the engines where having carboning issues. Even while still under warranty. So the fix just puts the original problem back in place. That the fix required.

Used primarily in city driving I would expect maintenance costs to exceed any fuel savings. We use other cars for trips to the stores in town etc. So the def equiped volkswagon sees more than 90 percent highway use.

It is not a big issue yet at the same time currently. With diesel fuel here about 1.00 more per American Gallon than gasoline. Kind of damages the greater millage aspect to some extent they deliver.

We also do not have a crystal ball to see where fuel prices are really going. My crystal ball shows a not far off future. With so many new cars not being sold. The used car market may really inflate. Simply do to supply and demand. Resulting from the now getting long of few new cars for sale basically.

Unless a car is in essence a hobby car. I work a formula that gives me a real cost per mile of ownership and driving. Not because I am cheap. I really am as well I suppose..

The wife asked me for more jewellery just the other day. I told her We both agree that she does not want to be overweight and I am doing my part. To keep her slim and trim.

That car with the DEF system is on an almost constant expense account. I like to keep an eye on how much it is earning.

Normal diesel is 7.90 an American gallon. That car does better on premium diesel at another ten cents a gallon. So 16.5 cents per highway mile for fuel. That is the lowest portion of cost per mile overall for that car. Yet people consider it is probably the biggest issue. Only because that cost is in your face all the time perhaps.

I seriously doubt that you can get a brand new pickup mid range truck down thr road at under a dollar a mile in actual cost overall. Especially if you do not drive it a lot.
