W123 Removing Front & Rear Rubber Bumper Corners
The rubber corners on my front and rear bumpers on my W123 are in bad shape and I was planning on taking some off of a junked car to replace mine. A few questions...
Can I remove the rubber corners (from front and back) without removing the entire bumper? Also, if I do need to remove the rear bumper in it's entirety, do I need to have access to the trunk? Thanks! |

There are two bolts in the trunk that you'll need to undo in order to remove the rubber corners. You'll have to remove the trunk liner on the left and right in order to access them. As far as replacing the corners, you'll have to remove both bumpers as the bumpers themselves slide into these corner pieces.

I ask about the trunk because, when picking a car at a scrapyard, the trunk is often locked with no key available to open it. Which means I would have to break into the trunk, which might prove to be difficult. |

I am also looking at changing these bumper corners. For what it's worth to people reading this over the years you can get access to the trunk area via the first aid kit opening in the rear parcel shelf. Developing a tool/method of moving the release mechanism is a whole other thing but it's still the ideal way to get into a locked W123 trunk without damaging anything. Under or near the first aid kit base can also be a good place to hide a key -inside- the car for those odd times when everything is open but the keys got locked in the trunk. For tripping the mechanism I would try to involve my phone on video with the light turned on to help me see if I have the tool in the right spot. Sometimes when you can't get a direct line of sight on something your phone's camera or a video clip can show it on the screen which is better than being totally blind.
