Oil Filter Question

220d which direction does the oil filter screen go on? In the picture attached do I have the direction correct? First oil change and it fell out into the drain pan before I got a look at it.

Not sure if the link below is active, if not search on it within this website, it will help.

Thank you! That helps.
What about the spring? I have found one source saying the wide part of the spring should be down, and another saying it should be up?

The fat part of the spring should be up.

The spring is item 5 on page 3 of the attached pdf.

Agree wide part of spring up toward filter...gotta love that filter set-up!

220D should have the "oel" cap on the injection pump, make sure the injection pump has oil in it, they're not pressure oiled. There is a procedure for flushing
out the pump cavity with mineral oil, I've never done it.

Good luck, post some pics!

Thanks again! I thought so. I have a Chilton book that has the wide part of the spring up, and that makes sense since the smaller part of the spring would go into the tapered part of the canister and the wide part against the flat part of the filter. But what confused me was that the previous owner had it on wrong, and then when I was trying to find information about the filter screen I came across a ************** video where he does it wrong!

Edit: lol it bleeped out the name of the site the video is from but I'm sure you know from the picture.
