Another thought was the shifting arm may have been pulled past the operational limits. When the rod bent. I think it bolts to the shaft and is not splined. Depending on what was paid for the transmission you might get some money back at the end of this rainbow.

Chances to that gear being damaged seem slight to me. The common failure with these transmissions seems to be worn syncro rings. I have three basically with one in a gas car.

Right now you have it pretty well managed in the world of cars. You are not riding a substantial depreciation wave plus your old 123s are possibly slowly increasing in value.

I did not buy ours with any consideration of that but it has happened even at fair prices today.

I just liked the brand ever since the first fintail. I also thought if for whatever reason as I aged and did not have much money. They could be drivers then. I also watch Canadian government policy. Indicating that changes beyond the normal rates of inflation were more likely to occur than not. Americans have no grounds to complain right now Compared to what most Canadians are dealing with.

Not too likely still as even at eighty next month I am still pretty busy. I find it both enjoyable and relaxing to work on cars. Even a person like me can cope well on the older ones. Although auto mechanics it is not a job I would want for a living.

Well 123 Canadian man, I finally decoded my not shifting into reverse. MY junkyard tranny shift rod for reverse was off and bent in as I mentioned and the junkyard dog must have put it back in at a different angle. I took the one off my blown tranny and bolted it on but no luck, no reverse. No help from the internet so I took my shifter out and cleaned 40 years of oil and dirt, put it in a vise and played with the possible configurations and with the long one fwd I found it would go into reverse just fine. Using those distances I remounted it and adjust the hole on the reverse/Neutral rod to line up with the shifter hole and BINGO. went right in to reverse. Uncle Kent up near the border said check the factory manual but no factory manual to be found at least outside of Germany. At least it is possible to figure things out with these old cars! Now she runs just fine(so far). I was beginning to lose hope especially with very few parts available. you have issues with Ottawa and trudeau I know but we have the Fed and biden and trumpers so we are not living in a workers paradise either. Regards.

Good to hear you have got it. Gears mesh clean you are are away. Keep an eye out for a cheap Haynes manual. Nowhere close to the factory manuals but of some use.

Post Tranny Fun

It's critical to occasionally drain the tranny and torque converter (it has a nifty 5MM plug to make it dead easy) and replace the filter, then check the internal pressure and adjust as necessary .

Care must be taken to not adjust the internal pressure until it has all new fluid and filter .

BT and DT with the help of folks here (lots of good threads that have the manual pages for everything) , my trannies all shift like new and my burrdy who's a Mercedes factory trained Mechanic says I shouldn't make any further adjustments .

Post W123 Values

By the way, I was out junkyarding last week and discovered three near perfect (no rust, dents, scratches and passable interiors) W123 four door sedans scrapped .

Seems a shame to me but that's the reality, I've been trying to sell off my fleet and will be scrapping some soon for lack of interest .

Don't scrap any without messaging me first please! I'm in San Diego, and a friend and I try to keep stuff out of the yards if possible.

Post Scrapping Cars

It was touch and go for my beloved 300CD, at the last moment a kid came by with cash .

I still have two British projects, 1959 Metropolitan Nash with automatic and a rod knock, 1960 Morris Minor, engine out for tranny replacement, spare tranny included .

Dirt cheap both .

Current Ca. tags and titles .

The high price of diesel fuel tends to drive prices lower for diesel cars. IMHO, best to hang on until diesel fuel prices drop.....

Post Topic Drift : Nash Metropolitan

Sort of .

I'm a long time member of the national Met Club and I watch these cars come and go .

It takes close to $40,000 to restore one correctly ans it's never going to be worth that much .

Older well preserved cars with new paint & chrome in turn key go for under $20,000 including convertibles .

I may have a guy from Michigan who will take both cars, if so I'll give them away as they need to go .

Post Back To Fuel Prices

Supposedly the price of gasoline dropped by .07 CENTS yesterday, on Friday some new tax is coming that bumps it back up .03 CENTS so whoopee I guess.

The California legislature is working on giving us back some fuel tax refund checks, last night they said that anyone early less than $125,000 (me an all my Blue Collar friends) will get a whopping $250 ~ gee, thanx *******s, I spend $100 every time I fill up now .

More like helping the 1%'ers because there's no excuse for current fuel prices .

A long time ago the gop deregulated fuel prices claiming 'supply and demand will make fuel almost free !" .

Funny how that didn't work out quite like the bootlickers hoped .

It never does, some things need to be regulated to prevent the 1% from robbing us all blind .

Amazing just how little money is worth today in general. When you have lived as long as myself.

Unfortunatly my long term memory works far too well still.

People may think high gas prices are temporary. Judging by what they are still buying new when they can get them. They may be right but I am less than certain.
