The largest socket in my HF deep impact set is 32 mm and I recall using it on my 1985 300D, perhaps the crankshaft bolt. I recall having to run out for a 12 pt large socket for the output nut on the transmission (1983 transmission I stripped for parts). I had to buy a special dbl-square male socket for the head bolts. The motor mounts require 6 and 12 mm hex Allen sockets as I recall. A set of open-ended wrenches is needed for some fittings, like the oil-cooler tube nuts. I have the long HF set w/ 26 mm max. I use the 22 mm box side on the p.s. pulley nut to turn the engine over by hand (start of injection timing and such). A 240D may differ.
