I keep getting the feeling that Mercedes doesn't want to support the pre-1995 era Mercedes models anymore. The problem that many have recognized is many of the pre-1995 mercedes cars are more reliable and last longer than any of their new offerings.
That has to present a major marketing headache to Mercedes. |

I can't speak too much of the designs of newer Mercedes Automobiles, but I nod silently whenever reading/hearing (old) expressions reminiscent of "form follows function", "engineers over accountants" etc... Yesterday helped a coworker change a low-beam bulb (2 pole) in his older '00 Audi, with cracks in the thin bulb cable isolation. Still a couple years (9) younger than my non-biodegradable-wiring-Benz. Why just don't make it non-degradable, make it right the first time, instead of getting tired of tossing and tossing... |

Looks like the Hayne's manual lied...
OK, disconnected the two bolts connecting the exhaust pipe to the transmission mount supposedly "freeing" the exhaust pipe. no joy. I can only move the exhaust pipe a half an inch or so which isn't enough to get to the bowden cable connection.
So, watched another youtube video and decided to put some Kroil oil where the front exhaust pipe (part that connects to the turbo) to the rear section. I am going to let it soak awhile, watch some television this memorial day then try to loosen the bolts. This should free the exhaust pipe enough so I can move it out of the way to gain access to the bowden cable connection. |

I just went out and shot the exhaust U bolts with some more Kroil oil. Hopefully that will get it, if not, I'm prepared to use a MAP gas torch on it.
Also, would it help to remove the rear transmission mount, radiator shroud hangars and throttle linkage to allow the transmission to lower so I could gain better access to the bowden cable connection? Last edited by qualified-merc; 05-27-2024 at 07:59 PM. |
