77 240D Instrument Cluster Repair
I just pulled my cluster and repaired the dimmer switch (rheostat), Odometer, and clock. I also repaired four of the mounting bosses that the instruments attach to.
I ran across this video for the clock: https://youtu.be/bcoBZJGK54c?si=xj8ON4oBSeOmHbMa And I bought these on Amazon and they solved the problem: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YDW6HTB?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details The odometer repair was straightforward though I wasn't able to completely remove the shaft. I used a drill bit to chase the shaft but it was still a challenge to keep everything in place. Instructions here: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repairing+Mercedes+W123+Odometer/25421 The rheostat was a fussy thing but these helped: PeachPartsWiki: Dash Light Rheostat Rebuild And this purchased Mercedes Source video https://**************.com/store/how-repair-your-dash-light-dimmer-switch-demand-video And finally, I used Marine-Tex to build up the mounting bosses. I made little tubes and dams with tape and cardboard, filled them up and then drilled them out for the screws to attach. A vacuum was needed to keep the swarf and dust under control but it worked. and all of the instruments are now firmly screwed to the binnacle. https://www.acehardware.com/departments/automotive-rv-and-marine/marine/boat-repair/88566 I hope all of this is of use to someone. |
