05 E320 CDI vibration at idle

05 E320 CDI

When the engine is cold (and in the cold ambient temps here in NH this time of year), the car has a very noticeable vibration at idle when the transmission is in Drive. None at all in Park, and only slightly in Reverse. When the engine reaches operating temp the vibration disappears.

I've inspected the engine mounts from above and they look fine, though I believe they are original. Anything else I should be looking for? Should I have the engine and trans mounts replaced at this mileage anyway?

Sounds like you need motor mounts, I changed mine last year when I detected a small vibration and it fixed it.

Thanks. What brand did you use? Is Lemforder OK or is this a part that's worth getting from the dealer?

X2 on motor mounts, if the car is a nice keeper change both sides and the transmission mount. Dealer is probably??? the best, if not Corteco and/or Lemfoerder.

Yep, the car's a keeper, so I'll bite the bullet and do them all. Thanks.

I used Lemforder and they are excellent. Reasonably easy to do especially with a shorter wrench for the passenger's side. You might want to cut one.

Do the transmission mount at the same time as they almost always have failed use Lemforder here to.

Don't want to be too much of a contrarian but you could have a fuel injector or 2 or 3 slightly plugged and are not getting uniform metering on cold idle.

Do the mounts first.

Solved!

New mounts did the trick. Wow, what a difference!
