What are optional ways to add compressor oil after the system has charged?

Hello Good People,

I just replaced the AC compressor. This was a bear of a job doing this on my back, the compressor was plenty heavy with one had as the other had was trying to add a 19mm bolt to the rear. The oil I put into the compressor mostly dripped out onto my chest as I began cursing like I was working on a Porsche 944 years ago.

Got everything bolted on, ran a successful vacuum and the added a can of R134a. I picked up an oil injector but it is not putting oil into the system. When I twist the oil injector to advance the oil into the system I can only get 1 to 2 turns before I cannot turn it anymore. Do I have a faulty oil injector or am I doing something wrong. I quickly turned the system off cause I do not want to run the compressor with out the proper amount of oil.

I would appreciate anyone who can spare the time to take me to school on this matter.

T.I.A.

Not really my area, but I think you’re doing things backwards here. The fact you’re only getting one or two turns with the oil injector is probably because you’re fighting against system pressure.

Pretty sure you need to recover your refrigerant, add the oil and then pull a vacuum. That’s the way I’ve always done mine.

Hey Shern,

Thanks for the response.
I was thinking the same thing about the oil. As mentioned before removing the factor oil and reloading with 2oz of the correct oil was simple enough until it poured out upon installing.

I will be eco friendly and have the one can of installed R134a recovered. Afterwards add the oil into the low pressure port, followed by pulling a vacuum.

Thanks

1 can r134? It is only 14oz, the system should not be full yet. How is the cooling, works as expected? The aux fan runs when AC running? If it works as expected then I will leave it alone.

There are pressurized oil canisters you can add oil, normally 2 oz oil and 1 oz R134a in the can. Good luck.

Hey ah-kay,

I had the system completely opened. I replaced the:
Four Seasons AC Compressor
Drier
Temperature sensor
Refrigerant pressure sensor
Expansion Valve
All o-rings

I pulled a vacuum for a couple hours and let it sit overnight. When I came back to the car some 15 hours later the gauge had not moved and I thought I would start adding the freon.

After adding one can of freon I heard the compressor kick on and the system was working. Very desired cold air was coming from the vents. The aux fan was running. I stopped and turned the car off when I could not inject the oil into the system. The last thing I wanted was for the compressor to jam up immediately.

Excellent tip on the pressurized oil canisters.

After reading the forum I see some say our systems require 6oz of oil whiles others have mentioned 8oz.

Thanks

R12 ---> R134A refer capacity? - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum https://share.google/hDJ4Og3KA8dpjzgCl

The volume of R12 for w123 should be 2.9lb or there about. R134 is about 3/4 of that. I don't know how much you have charged with 1 can. It could be a very big can. Please Google the volume you need. Good luck.

I used a 12oz can.

Thank you for taking the time to help me out as it does help keep my cortisol levels lows.

I'll pick up a few cans of the pressurized oil canisters from O'Reilly tomorrow.

With ah-kay's advice was able to pick up a few cans of pressurized oil for my system. Got everything put back together. The system was working because when installing the the R134a and the oil I would see condensation on the windshield. It did not feel very cool from inside but that may have been due to the fact I was in a garage where the outside temps reached 94degree F.

Thanks again.
