REdline diesel catalyst
I recently put in some Redline Diesel Additive (twice with i 1/2 tank full) in my gas tank. My car developed some shaking off and on. Could this be causing it?Did i put too much?If i did what is the best remedy? I also had my valves adjusted about a week and a half ago. It was running smooth and with a little more pep. Last question , what is causing my tranny to leak when I am heating up the caR ( idling). I already poured some ATF to replenish the lost ones that leaked out...should I have a tranny service ?:confused

How do you know your "tranny" doesn't leak all the time? You probably just notice the drips on the ground because the car is not moving.
Check the oil pan bolts or the bolt the holds the dip stick onto the pan for tightness. Try to determine where the leak is coming from. If its the oil seals your are due for some transmission work. P E H |

I've used Redline in my diesels for the last 10 years and have never heard of any "shaking" being associated with the additive. That doesn't mean that they are not related, just that I've never known of it. There are people on this board who have posted that they add a whole bottle at times when filling up tank. I usually add a little more than what the directions on the bottle say... so I don't think you could add too much. Maybe someone else has had a similar experience and will post soon... sorry I can't be of more help.

It should be safe to use a full bottle or more of the Redline additive, especially since it's mostly diesel anyway. I've dumped in a full bottle a couple of times in both my cars as a shock dose without any ill effect. I'd guess the shaking is unrelated unless somehow some loosened "gunk" got partially lodged in an injector. I'd try an italian tuneup and see if it'll go away.
You probably know this but it's best to put fuel additives in before you fill up so when you top off the tank the new fuel mixes everything up. One last thing, keep an eye on your fuel filters, the RedLine additive has an algaecide that may cause them to clog if you have algae in your tank.

Sounds like the additive stirred up some gunk, its playing havoc with you rack. If the problem is bad, replace the fuel filters, have the rack adjusted or perhaps your rack adjustment spring is bad. You may want to have that done.... Good luck.
BTW, I've used Redline, really don't see a huge boost. I think its more for the owner to clear his/her head of any mal thoughts. |

I mostly agree with Randall. I've used RedLine last two fillups (usually 19 gallons of deezl). Haven't noticed any change in perfomance. She doesn't smoke or shake though. I only add it as good measure to get rid of any potential water in the tank. One bottle of RedLine is supposed to dry up a couple of ounces of water. Maybe your situation is that some sediment at the bottom of the tank was broken free?

The RedLine additive provides a modest Cetane boost and is supposed to help clean the injectors. The main reason I use it is because the low sulpher fuels sold today have much lower lubricating properties than what was sold when these cars were built and that is critical to the longevity of your injection pump. The additive helps keep the IP lubricated and running smoothly. I happen to use RedLine mostly because I can find it easily. I think most other diesel additives should do pretty much the same thing, just be sure you're using something that helps lubricate the IP.

I use diesel kleen. And this winter, depending on performance and start ups, I am going to use the Power Service Anti-Gel additive and diesel kleen at once. I dumped a whole bottle last fill up, which was a half tank. I am going to see how the mileage is before I put more in. I want to purge it soon to see if it helps anything.

redline works best during winter when diesel antigel additives kill the cetane rating (Nate should remember that discussion from this past winter). During winter I lost mileage from 34 mpg to about 30 mpg (loss of about 60 miles per tank). With redline I got it back to 32.5 - 33 mpg.

That's why I'll use Diesel Kleen along w/ the anti-gel stuff, to give it a cetane boost. The PS anti-gel stuff has some cetane boost as well.
