Psfred:
I believe by turning the sleeve, this determines how much fuel is being injected at an idle. It also determines positive fuel cutoff. I believe the shims may be used to compensate leakage in the cylinders. One cylinder may fit tighter than others, so you would insert shims to bring them in line with the ones that leak or blowby. This way all the cylinders would have the same flow. Like you mentioned start of fuel delivery would be most critical in the idle position. It was pretty interesting in that when the engine shuts down, the only thing that changes is the rack position. It basically shuts the fuel off to each injector. Hey GSXR did you get the post? I was posting on the how to set injection pump timing, but I thought this would be a more appropiate title for those wanting to try this. I am still working on getting the exploded views scanned in. As I recall when I removed one of these on my 240, which disturbed the original caliration, I found I could adjust it when the car was running.
Kinda did it by ear. Useing a screw driver as a lever device, swivel the hold down bracket until you hear it run smoother or more in synch with the others. Or just put it in the middle... ![]()

Peter - AMAZING photos! Thanks a bunch. So when will it go back on the car for a test-fire? I'm curious as to the calibrations available, what screws you can turn to change full load fuel delivery, ALDA effect, etc... fascinating stuff though. I'm tempted to find a used (or damaged) OM603 pump to take apart for fun.

gsxr:
It has been running as I had mentioned in my previous post. I have put about 6K on it and have had no problems. I have been concerned with my cold starts, but the car amazes me. I just finished checking my glow plugs because I have had a hard time starting it at night after being in the parking lot all day. But today, it cranked right up, go figure. I am glad you saw the pictures. Remember, all pumps are a little different. You have to stand on your head and get the numbers off the side. The part number at the top of the page is my pump and governor part numbers. If you have any other questions drop me a post. PeterG 79 300SD |

I called Robert Bosch here in Ill. They faxed me the exploded view, with part numbers. That number is (800) 521-5462. They would not sell me the parts. I bought the parts from an injection shop online. PeterG 79 300 SD |

Peter, could you tell us what injection shop sold you the parts? I'm going to call Bosch today and try to get them to fax me the exploded view for my six-cylinder PE pump.
