Starter never recovered from the water -ADVICE

Hello everyone,

About 2 months ago, I went through a large water spot, not sure but water was pretty deep. My rebuilt bosch starter(about 3 years old), had never ever had a problem. Now, two months later, it seems to not engage all the time *OR* slip off the engagement.
Any suggestions on what may need replacing or cleaning to get it back to snuff. Hate to replace it, since it's not very old.
