Automatic to stick shift conversion questions

I have a cherry '79 240D Automatic that I would like to convert to a 300 turbo and stick. I have access to a '82 300 turbo car for the donor engine and accessories.
I have read of some of you guys doing the change over to stick. I have done some other conversions on other types of cars and know it is always best to have a complete "Donor" car to get ALL of the goodies needed.
Is the 240d clutch strong enough to hold the 300 turbo? Do you use the 240 flywheel? Do you have to shorten the shift linkage as the trans sits back further with the 5 cyl? What 5 speed are some of you guys using and what year does it come out of? What else do you run into problem wise?
All info appreciated!!! Chris

Try doing a search for a user named Ridge, he has done a few of these conversions, and I think he is planning on doing a 5 speed conversion sometime soon as well. I am sure there are others who can answer your questions better.

A very popular conversion.... you will need to buy a euro 300 flywheel - then have it ballanced.

Common 240D 4-spd. bell housing and transmission will bolt onto the 300 block..... yes, you can use the 240 clutch and it wont be over-stressed.

One thing to consider: different final drive gear ratios were used on the 240 and 300..... so you might be replacing the pumpkin as well - otherwise install the engine/tranny combo and see how you like it.

Hell, I've got a 240D 4-speed in my backyard that you can have as transmission and clutch donor for $1200 - if you dont mind paying shipping cost from East to West Coast.

240 Diesel Dog, What is the difference between the 240 and the Euro 300 flywheel? If they(300&240 flywheels) accept the same clutch, what is the difference in the flywheels? Is one heavier? I know about the differential ratios and the donor car is an '82 with the 3:07 R&P. All help and info is GREATLY appreciated!! Chris
