Sway Bar Link Replacement-Help
My 1976 240d started thumping in the right rear every time I turned right. I searched under thumping and found several had been sway bar links and how to check them and crawled under the car and immediately found the right sway bar link completely off. I ordered the parts from Phil on Wed and they came Friday but my chilton does not mention the link at all.
The part is simple and it is obvious where it goes but the question is, does it just screw into the cover plate on the back side of the hub or does it have a nut on the inside behind the wheel and I need to pull the wheel and hub to get to it? Are there any tricks or anything I should watch for? I also bought the front sway bar bushing kit since I get some thumping from the front when going over bumps. Any suggestions on this job, once again nothing in the chiltons. Thanks for the help.

I just replaced the sway bar links on my 300sdl and it was a breeze. 1) jack up the rear on the side you are going to work on. 2) put a block under the swing arm to hold most of the weight 3) take the wheel off 4) using the jack adjust the height until the sway bar link is slack, you'll know it when it is! 5) the connection of the sway bar link to the sway has a nut on one side so you will need two open or box end wrenches (16 &/or 17mm I think?) 6) the connection to the swing arm is just a bolt, it comes right out, very easy to get to on the 300SDL 7) install the new sway bar link in reverse order I never had to change the sway bar on my 75 115 240D but I would think they would be similar.
