0-60 18sec-from 30sec NEXT?
Changed fuel filters, air filter, cleaned all banjo bolts and bypassed crossover valve, went from 30 sec to 18 sec 0-60. Adjusted alda ccw 1 turn, no increase in performance. Accelerator linkage feels mushy (play), is there a way to check for full travel. thanks

Check to make sure there is nothing under/behind the pedal to impede its travel and that it bottoms out on its stop. Then have a helper press the pedal fully to the floor and hold it there. Now check under the hood to inspect the linkage and make sure it is in fact moving the lever on the pump to the "full throttle" position. When I bought my Jetta it was only getting 3/4 throttle when floored. Needless to say it was a completely different car once that was adjusted. RT

after accelerator linkage...
You will probably need to increase turbo boost to see any benefit from alda adjustment. Search this forum for information relating to manual boost controllers or waste gate adjustments. Boost controllers, such as the
Dawes Devices unit are quite inexpensive and allow for easy adjustment. |

Check boost pressure before adjusting it! Sometimes tweaking the ALDA does nothing. My engine produces ~9psi, but with the wastegate hose pinched off it produces ~15psi. However there is NO power gain with the extra boost. I left it at 9psi, since there was no point in adjusting it. If you saw no gain with the ALDA adjust, turn it back to where it was or your MPG may plummet.
Next item is to drive it like you stole it for a few thousand miles, and also have the valves adjusted if you haven't already. It may take a while for the full power to come back. My '84 took a good 5kmi+ before it started running very strong (it was driven too lightly by the PO). Oh, btw - I think factory spec for your car 0-60 is roughly 14-15 seconds, so you're not going to get it much faster anyway! If you live at high elevation (above ~2500ft) then 18 seconds could be the best it will ever do... Good luck,
