algae, Draining the tank?
I am starting the resurection of a diesel that sat awhile.
Ir runs but bogs down which I understand could be algae clogging things or air is getting into the line. Starting with potential algae. I just started draining the tank by unscrewing the tank drain bolt. The diesel fuel looks gold and fine. (I had refilled the tank before parking it in Dec.). My question is iffffff there was any algae problems in the tank would I have seen this upon the first few seconds of draining the fuel?

why do you suspect algae? was the tank full to top? I just went through awful agae problem. Use see thru primary fuel filter and look for scum to build up when tank gets low. If you get algae in filter then drain tank, take it out (very easy to do) and take it in to have it flushed (costs about 50 bucks). this will save you a lot of trouble....make sure you remove the tank screen when you take it in the idiot that did my tank didn't do so (even after I warned him) and it disappeared (he replaced it for free btw).

Guru help
leathermang aimed to the best of the algea threads so I think I got an idea of what I need to do.
This car is a cheapy experamental car for WVO so Ill avoid the time and cost of tank cleaning and go with: . Drain tank . put new diesel; 1/4 tank or less back in and add what ever super agae cleaner I end up getting. . Slosh the tank around some (hard to do since it is not being driven any yet.. Ill come up with something, . Drain again . Repeat the above steps if it looks neccissary . add a prefilter and change fuel filter. . watch it religiously . change when needed Actuallly. one of the things I read hinted on how to clean the prefilter so this will prevent having to buy lots of prefilters of algea.
