I've decided I have to get a K&N air filter after test driving for a little while with the manifold to the turbo removed. Oh my goodness, what a beautiful sound the turbo makes; I can't beleive what I've been missing. The K&N is a must simply for that enjoyment. So what if it decreases my engine life by 3 percent. Look at this link, the K&N filtered pretty good. http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/airfilter/airtest3.htm

possible issue

well i have the Cali style air filter (small and tall) and i just purchased a K&N cone with pipe and oil seperator from ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7997631718&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fmotors.search.ebay.com%3A80%2F%3Fsofocus%3Dbs%26satitle%3D7997631718%26sacat%3D6000% 2526catref%253DC5%26from%3DR7%26nojspr%3Dy%26pfid%3D0%26fsop%3D1%2526fsoo%253D1%26fcl%3D3%26frpp%3D5 0%26fvi%3D1

i now am getting concerned because i think that the pipe that comes with mine will not fit my car. it looks like i need a 90 degree turn, which mine is not. i guess i will find out, but if the pipe does not end up fitting are the VW pipes the same diameter as the 300d ones? i thought i read that somewhere.

also since i get my air from the side of the car, can i get a federal air scoop thing that sits right below the hood and bolt that to my car? i would take that air and direct it towards my K&N. any thoughts?

By the way I posted the link to the ISO airfilter test on my Magnum forum and have really started a panic among K&N users.

I can see their reaction:
Oh no, I spent all that money, and it is wrecking my engine!!!
Putting a K&N on my new car voided the engine warranty!!!
Oh my aching sides, bet you grin every time you think of those people.
:Frantic attempt to restore the OEM system they trashed: ROFL
