warm AC air/ aux fan on all the time @ normal temps?

Hi, I used the search and after about 30 Minutes or so of reading through posts that came up. I may be one of the less fortunate (DUMB) ones. But I really don't have the Time and patience to search and read through every single post that the came up and has nothing to do with my problem. Well ok I searched for 45 munutes or so, so please understand my frustration. OK ON to my problem. I sprayed my engine off with some water. Now when I drive it the AC doesn't work anymore. I also noticed that my aux fan is now on all of the time. My temp stays the same (normal) if that helps any? My AC has always worked fine untill I sprayed that water on it. also I know that I didn't crack the block or anything because the engine was cold. I don't feel horsepower loss when I turn the AC on. My car is a 87 300D turbo-603.96.133 I think. thanks for any replies. and have a nice day.

Ok, how hard a water stream did you direct at the engine ? Maybe you partially disconnected a wire connector...or blew dirt into a connection or maybe a fuse blew... have you checked your fuses ?

I've had the aux fan stuck on high speed after washing the engine. It's the 3-prong electrical temp switch on the water neck, on the head, near the upper radiator hose (engine side). It might dry out and turn the fan off after a few days, it might not. That switch gets flaky after 15+ years and doesn't turn the fan on at coolant temps of 105C like it should, so it might be a good idea to replace it anyway. Pulling the 2-pole connctor off should make the fan shut off (if that is the problem). Now when I spray the engine, I always cover that switch - works great, no problems.

Don't know what happened to your A/C system - sorry! You may need to have it checked at a shop. Check all the fuses first though, for grins.

I would first start with the fuse check. Then look at the wire terminal at all sensors. Make sure they are well connected. Does the compressor engage when you turn the AC on?

If the compressor switches on for a short time, then cuts out and won't come back on even if you turn the ACC on and off, you probably have a greasy serpentine belt (for sure if you sprayed detergent in there!).

A slipping belt will cause the ACC to turn the compressor off to prevent engine lockup due to a failed compressor. There is a speed sensor in the compressor, so if you soaked the connection, it may have shorted and the Klima relay thinks it's not turning fast enough and shuts it off.

Check all the connectors you sprayed for water inside and dry them if there is. Rinse the serpentine belt with clear water if you got detergent on it, and if it is in bad shape, replace it.

If you sprayed up near the fuse box, you may have water in the relays up there, too, you may need to pull them and dry them off.

Yes, sir I did indeed check the fuses. The wires on top of the engine their all dry and good I think. My problem is that my AC won't get cold now and it makes my aux fan stay on untill I turn the key off. And It's hotter than a $20.00 pistol---- haha............................mmmmmmm nevermind.

Check the wires to the speed sensor on the flywheel (behind the IP, all the way at the back) and the speed sensor on the back of the AC compressor. Also the wires to the low pressure switch on the reciever/dryer below the left headlight, these are the places where components for the AC system are.

compressor

It is common that after washing the engine with a jet of water the water gets in the compressor clutch gap and the compressor does not engage. This however goes away after some time of driving, when the water evaporates.

I checked all of the connectons that I could find. All of them look fine I think? I should have mentioned that I only sprayed it with a garden hose. and it's also been about four days since I got it wet. Would there still be water in there? It's acting like it would as if the engine was starting to get hot. You know, the compressor dissengages and the aux fan comes on. But it's really weird though, the fan comes on and stays on untill I shut the key off even when it's not hot. Could it be like a temp sensor on top of the AUX water pump thats causing this? Or could I be out of Juice? I cannot figure this one out. oh and thank all of you for your help so far. I really appreaciate it. I also can take pictures of it. But it looks just like a 603.96 motor. I cannot tell where or what is broken. I just thought it might be of some help. So if anybody can, let me know........................Thanks a bunch

Don't know if it will help but...

Once on my 75 and twice on my 80 I have taken the hose to the inteior of the engine compartment and the aux fan came on and would not go off. I pulled the fuse to stop it then cleaned the connections
1. at the base of the radiator, two prong plug there.
2. at the top of the AC dryer there are two sensors, one for the compressor and one for the aux fan. I pulled both these apart and cleaned and dried them.
Solved my problems.

Now I am much more careful with the hose..

I do not know if any of these things apply to an 87 or not. Sorry that's too new for me...
