More A/C problems.....

Okay, installed new compressor and drier the other day. Now at idle in Park it makes a very faint noise. When at idle in gear it makes a racket. When the A/C is off it makes no noise. With A/C on going down the highway it makes faint noise. Should I have hooked everything up and then evacuated the system before adding R134a?

I checked low side pressure and adjusted to 45 psi. Don't have a guage to check high side.

my a/c makes a definite noise in any mode. the question is .. is it cold? if so then why worry?
new parts are a big improvement no matter how you slice it
imo.

Yeah, it works great but it shouldn't be making the noises it is making. Kind of embarassing at a stoplight.

You must always evacuate the system anytime its expose to air. I am not sure if thats the reason for the noise, but I can assure you that by evacuating the system before charging, will increase the efficiency of AC and also the life of AC system. Traces of air in AC syatem along with moisture is a corrosion in happening.

So I can still salvage my components? Just evacuate with vacuum pump and recharge?

vwbuge, You really need to go read several of the ac threads on this site...you could not have read them with as many times as stuff like flushing and evacuating have been preached and still be asking basic questions like you are doing.....

Yes, if it was charged without evacuation, you certainly should properly evacuate and charge.

Good luck,

Well, I am smart enough to READ BEFORE hooking up anything as technically demanding as an air conditioner. You could not have found any general ac thread which would not have preached multiple times about the necessity of Vacuuming WELL, much less failing to mention vacuuming AT ALL....
I suspected from the start that this was a bogus question due to the facts which I just referred to....No one could own a car, put the new stuff on it , not see ANY AC threads, not know that shops have vacuum pumps.... just NO WAY.... so you are exposed herewith.

i have read several other A/C posts as well as posts on various other jobs. My last thread was kind of long and I received many responses. I don't recall anyone of them informing me to evacuate the system. I WAS TOLD that if the compressor scattered internally I would have to FLUSH the system thoroughly. I don't think you stepped in with your infinite wisdom and deemed we worthy to receive your counseling on this matter previously. i am convinced that it is impossible to type with a split hoof, so that proves it.

So you are claiming that in addition to not EVER seeing any references to vacuuming the ac system , no discussions about the type of vacuum not appropriate ( vane type ) , no discussions about the brand or the amount of pull needed ( in microns or inches of mercury ), no opinions about needing to evacuate the system overnight,

that your NEW COMPRESSOR OR RECIEVER DRYER HAD NO MENTION OF VACUUM in the instructions ? If you did not read the instructions then maybe you did not follow the instructions concerning not introducing liquid refrigerant into the compressor,,, and your noise is from having frozen a reed valve.

Why did you not post before putting the compressor and dryer on and say " I am going to put a new compressor and dryer on and don't want to do any searches as to the proper procedure, will someone tell me personally what to do ? "
