I got to drive a S400CDI and a new E320CDI.
Both those cars hauled big time.
The Gtech Pro said 6.9sec for the S and 7.05 for the E.
Both cars had buckets of torque.
I want them all!!!! NOW!!!!!!!!

Haven't timed my SD yet. But the 'ol '68 220D's I used to have were too slow for even an hour glass. I used a calender, but always fell asleep before I hit 60mph. So never did know.

PDXMAN, do a search on 'slowest 0-60' times or somesuch on this forum going back about 4 months. There was a long report of 0-60 times for 240s on that thread.

The V6 doesn't have it. But the V6 feels dead compared to my E420 or 560.

The inline 6 gasser in the 94- 95 E320 M104 was one helluva engine. That thing had a roar that echoed off all the buildings back into my ear. Very fun car to drive, and suprisingly peppy for a six.

Why is it that people always say "Oh, it's an old diesel, it must be a slug..." when it comes to speed? My 300SDL could blow a lot of cars out of the water. I don't know why, but it seems just as quick as my E420 (the V8 has a much better sound though. Like my M117). I go by the seat of my pants feel. The absolute thrust you get from these cars is astounding.

In my mother's E320 wagon, I once got beaten by an '87 300D(I was in SHOCK). My foot was past kickdown, and he was pulling away from me at around 80mph like I was stopped.
That's when I decided to find one of these cars for myself.

I have driven other SDL's, though, and a lot of them seem pretty slow. Most of them were affected by hills, and the turbos never spooled up until about 2-3 seconds after you applied the gas on the highway. They were all too slow for me. I was used to gassers.

Until I found mine.

Something had to have been done to this baby. I just can't get over it. I don't know what was done to it, but it's been fine for the past 75K miles with little work needing to be done (only brake job).

By the way... NO TURBO-LAG ON THE HIGHWAY!!! I can't stand cars with turbo-lag.

It keeps me smiling every time I drive it :p

With this boards help (thanks) 83 300sd NOW at 15 seconds, (about factory spec) 280,000 miles on her. 30-32 seconds when purchased. Bypassing switchover valve made huge gains.

Funny with all these responses that nobody has posted a 240D speed for pdxman to use

Maybe there's something for me to learn here about just keeping quiet and accepting our 240D's bottom feeder status.

I posted the slowest 0 to 60 something like anywhere from 30 to 45 seconds after warm up I have made adj to the 240d because I was smoking black for a while and back then it was even slower. This of course is on flat ground. I am thinking later on in the fall I will be cleaning injectors ,replacing adjust valves again , check timing chain etc. I would like to know exactly what a proper time from 0 to 60 for an automatic should be ? My car Is well taken care of inside and out and loaded and everything works . Great reliability and a pleasure to work on as everyone knows but as slow as a three leg turtle.

Try this link

http://web.missouri.edu/~apcb20/times.html#Mercedes

It should give a good interpretation of the 0-60 times for Mercedes models, and 1/4 mile times.

I see the 240d four speed at 19 seconds I could live with that but the 300 td between 10 and 13 second Is this acurate ? If it is I will buy one in the future If I dont get this thing to go any faster but would hate to sell of course. I think the 240 auto would be hard to sell because of the speed takeoff .

Yeah, I sensed that, which is why I suggested the search. However, I searched and was unsuccessful. Maybe the previous thread was a TXBill or some other such outlaw and was deleted. Sorry.

But thanks to DslBnz for the super-positive post. Makes me want to go tear up some interstate

EDIT: I remember now--I think the original post was by Kylepavao, and all of his threads were deleted somehow. He's got a 240.

Not all of KylePavao's threads were deleted, the pretty girls one is still up...

I think that Larry (and, maybe for that matter, all 240D owners) need a license plate frame that says "0 to 60? Yes."

(sorry, couldn't help it)

Anyone concerned with how much of their life is spent accelerating from zero to 60 mph in each attempt should not buy a 240D with an automatic.

By the way, as I understand the MB website, the new W21 E320CDI is an in-line 6, not a soul-less V-6. Jim

I have shared this with my wife, and she says it has nothing to do with the fact that we can't spare $60K

I'm sure the fact that the W211 rear end looks like a (soulless) Saturn has nothing to do with it.

If you don't check every option box there is, the 04' 320CDI
should start out right around $46-47K. Still pricey, but some people are trying to sell their 99' E300t for close to $40K.
I would make the jump myself.
