Hot enough for ya ?

Sunvisor melted and came apart on a recent 108 degree day. Dealer price on a new one is $430 (with my 10% discount).

Ouch, I bet you'll be glueing that back together instead of buying a new one.

The lighted mirror insert is so distorted that it will not fit into place, so, I'm afraid this one is toast. For now I will just take the mirror out. I'm looking for a used one. If not, I will order one from an early model 123 which didn't have the lighted mirror. That one is a little over a hundred bucks.

Boneyard Part

When we got our cars, all their lighted visors (Marlene-palomino and Lilly-dark blue) had gone to that great parts house in the sky. We just went to the boneyard and found good ones that didn't have those stupid light/mirror assemblies. Cost: less than $30.

Less IS more!

Oh yea HOT

It's been so hot that I actually went and did the one thing that I really didn't want to do to the SDL -- had the windows tinted this week. Always leave the slider cracked to.

It seems that I'm in a constant battle with my wife about leaving the visors down. She is only 5'4" so she needs the visor down often. She refuses to get in the habit of putting it back up before leaving the car in the sun.

I will show her this post.

Have a great day,

Palangi, do that picture again with the visor up or "fixed" and you'll have a neat picture with the "blast from the past" in the rear view mirror. Reminded me of an Eberhard picture. Also, were the fuzzy dice an extremely rare factory option?

Go the ebay route

I bought a used pair from ebay and then used vinyl die I got from www.worlduph.com. to make them the right color.

Certainly some patience is required, but it is a much cheaper route. Mine look great.

Jim

PS, in general I HATE sun visors. When driving and my wife is in the passenger side, she always has the visor down and it messes up my vision when I'm making a turn. I go the sunglasses and ballcap route.

PS, make sure that you never have the sunvisor tilted inward where the edge is facing you. I have seen some major ridges in the forehead from clobbering into a sunvisor in the event of a wreck. Always tilt it away from you.

Been looking for used ones locally but no joy so far. I think eventually they all go bad from the heat down here. When the left one went, I bought one from an early 123 without the light. You have to insulate it at the electrical contact point, but otherwise works OK. DieselDon, If I can't find used ones locally, I would be interested in purchasing yours. I will E-Mail you if needed.

Look close at the fuzzy dice. They are from the "Car Talk Shameless Commerce Division" On the rear window shelf, I have a bobble-head armadillo but it's hard to see because of the window tint.

Well, I can't take credit for having the first MB with fuzzy dice, I have seen others running around. Never seen another one with a bobble-head armadillo though.

Palangi,

There was a post a few weeks ago that dealt with finding new W123 floor pans that had rusted out. This thread had a site listed from Germany that has a great deal of stuff for older Mercedes at very good prices. If you go to the English portion of the site it has relatively limited selection, I believe due to the difficulty or extra time required to translate. The German half of the site is much more comprehensive (www.dbdepot.de/index1_800.html) and if you can figure out how to navigate through it the prices are pretty good.

In any case if you email them they will offer to find anything they do not stock, used or new. Give Andreas an email and I bet you save more than half of the $100 you are looking at now. Good luck, Jim

Jim, thanks fo that link. I will poke around there and see what I can find.

DaBenz, I just now realized what you were talking about. It was just a coincidence that Nellibelle was visible in the rear view mirror, but, you're right, that might be a cool picture. Both cars are still sitting in the same spot, so I will try to take that picture torrow.
