Brian is checking with machine shops, and a friend of mine is also getting a quote from a machine shop... depending on the two numbers, we'll see if it's worth making a batch (probably 25 to 50 kits). Just curious, what would y'all be willing to pay for kit that includes an aluminum plate as in the photo above, with the steel exhaust disc, a gasket, and instructions?

This kit should work on all OM616, 617, 601, 602, and 603 diesels up to 1989 models. From 1990-up you need electronic mods (or a different wastegate) before EGR removal. I don't know if the kit will work on gas engines (M103, etc) or if that messes up the gasser computers, etc...

I'd pay as much as $20 for something that looked as good as the one shown in the pix.

I already did this job myself. It took about $10 in materials (gasket material, low carbon steel, copper) and three or four hours. I would think that for the amount of time, materials, and tools required to make a nice set of plates, your kit should be sold for about $30-$40.

I'd be fine with 20 bucks... I'd throw in a $5 tip on top of that, just as thanks for not making me get up off my lazy butt to figure this one out myself ;-).

Cazzzidy: I imagine making them in bulk would be a lot cheaper materials- and time-wise. But hell, I'd even pay 40 bucks for it if I had to...

I'd pay say $30 for the two gaskets required, one that is elongated with two bolt holes, and one round "cap" for the exhaust port. GSXR has detailed drawings, has anyone seen those? (I did not read this entire thread so sorry if his mention has already been made)

Re-read the entire thread. I see Dave published his drawings (I had those sitting here for several months but too busy to take to a machine shop) The problem with some of these machine shops is they want a lot of $$ for set up fee. Like $90 to $120 (in the Bay Area things are a lot more inflated than elsewhere in the USofA) and that is before they start work! OTOH, there are hungry machinists around who will work for less. I have access to an end mill and would have already made some myself but no time!
I am currently running a thin sheet of nickel or stainless under the intake side on an OM617. I have a EGR that leaks, it occasionally blows carbon out the seal around the diaphragm, despite having the intake side sealed off with this solid plate.
Better off completely removed!
I want to do likewise on my OM603 next also.

I put the intake/exhaust manifold from a 1979 model 300SD on mine.

As a point of reference, I got a quote from a boneyard today for the intake and exhaust from a pre-egr 300SD of $120 the pair. Somewhere between that number and the $20 (inadequate, I'm afraid) offers shown previously in this thread is the real number.

At least you have the option of pre-EGR stuff for the OM61x engines. I looked into the non-EGR Euro OM603 setup and found it would require the Euro intake AND exhaust manifold, re-clocking the US turbo, Euro intake snorkel, and Euro front exhaust downpipe - translation, fuhgeddaboutit.

Dave and I are both working on the cost for the intake plate and the exhaust cover. There are quite a few options including laser cutting or water jetting for the intake plate. We need a couple of weeks to sort it out, however, the kit will definitely be done for a cost of $30.00 or less.

Again, it may be a few months before I can spare the $$ (it's generally nice to be able to eat once in a while ), but I second that motion

I'd take a set as nice as gsxr's that ran in the $20-30 range. Thanks for doing the research!
