But the OM616 is a non turbo, right, so its more than 1 cylinder different than a OM617.
OK, so what is the designation of a non turbo 5 cylinder engine such as used in a 300D?

The differences between the turbo and non-turbo 617 are found in the numbers that come after 617. eg, 617.xxx
Which numbers designate which engine model I don't know but there are more differences between 617's than just the turbo. For instance, the 617 they put in vans, has a different number than the 617 they put in cars, even though they were both non-turbo. For instance, the earlier 617 in the 115's had a different water pump than later 617's in the 123's.

A non-turbo 300d in a 115 chassis would be a 617.910 and not a 617.912.

Kerry,
What would a 617.912 go into, a 123?

I just bought a factory 615, 616, 617.91 engine manual off ebay.
I hope it will correspond to my 1976 300D.
Thanks

Can anyone direct us to a website where all the differences between the various models of 616 and 617 engines are explained?
I know some of the differences between the turbo and non-turbo but how about a complete list of all differences and to which engines they apply?

That would be quite an undertaking since I've seen non-transportation application 616s. I saw some being used to drive water pumps in a commercial fishery in Asia. Saw the MB logo and was intrigued. I had to check the serial number to be sure it was a 616. Those things stayed on for months between service breaks.
