Need "New" 300D

As I have mentioned in some of the other posts, My wife's 90 Caddy is DOA. 197K on an engine that was only engineered for 100K is not bad though. It has been determined that the timing chain/gears finally gave up the ghost and that the car is not worth repairing as it has other issues as well. We have been looking around for a mid 80's W123. (Diesel Of Course). What should I look for and be concerned with on these cars? So far I am happy with my 76 W115, even though it needs some TLC, which I am applying as I drive it. (Necessary since we are down to two operating autos). I want something that is reliable that I can feel good about her driving on a daily basis when I am out on one of my trips. It's rather difficult to call repair shops and manage a repair from Germany, not to mention expsive.

If you're willing to consider a 300SD..

Here's one that looks great, a one-owner car in your neighborhood. The seller is an indy up there who I've read good things about. He might be willing to end the auction early, since he's gotten no bids 4 days into the auction:

Hello Hawk,

I hate to keep on soliciting my car but I have a 84 300d in great shape for sale in chicagoland.

I have put well over 3000 (in parts) into this car and it is in great mechanical form. The body is in real good shape, it does need some rust attention in the wheel wells but not hard to repair.

My trusted old mercedes 300d for sale in chicago

Looking over my list of repairs will give you a good idea of what repairs may be upcomming in any diesel you buy.

Look for a car with the following criteria

Timing chain service
vacuum system functional Check to make sure the central locking functions normally
frequent fluid and filter changes
AC is funtional. all blowers work properly not just the defroster
transmission shifts good.
not too many leaks (mine does not leak at all)
DRY CABIN. LOOK UNDER FLOOR MATS YOU WANT NO WATER THERE

All the power windows and mirrors work properly..

feel free to contact me at counihan@mc.net if you have any questions about my car or what to look for in any diesel you buy. leave your phone number so that I can call you.

good luck with your search.
