In the picture it looks like they can based on the slots in front of the metal posts on them. Since the ones i grabbed are from the front they lean forward nicely.

I agree with lrg, no center headrest does provide a better rearview.
Hey, thanks for your post!!! I am jealous! How much did you pay for your headrests? The upholstery covers are really easy to replace so i may just pick up some dumpy head rests and put my cushion and covers on. afterall all you really need is the metal insert.

i have however taken the spare front headrest that i've had for years and put it in the middle slot tilted forward. yay!

I think it was a 380SL, it had a V6. The car was only out there for about 3 weeks with the doors closed so the covers are in great shape with only 3 cracks on the hard rubber edgelinings.

I paid $2.50 each for the headrests. Yet, they had the gall to charge me $5.50 for a washer pump I got also, but only $.0.10 for three feet of vacuum tubes and rubber connectors.

1995 E320 "Flagship" Wagon with 3rd seat and a total of 5 headrests--2 front, 3-rear. Have removed all of them, they appear identical but the owner's manual cautions about mixing them up?! ALL FIVE headrests tilt forward and back, all 5 go up and down (Front are power) Everything on my car is original, I am second owner with complete history and low miles.
