euro headlight question, lens or assembly?
in my parts catalogue, they have both the full euro headlight assembly and also just the lenses. can i put just the lenses on my us spec lights or do i need to buy the whole assembly? if i only need the lenses, i could save alot of money, thanks.

thanks for clearing that up
im also looking at getting brighter bulbs and i did a search and people keep saying that just getting euro light s alone makes a big difference, why is this? i thought the only difference was that on the euros the fog and the headlamp were one piece instead of two. is thre a different focus? are the fog lights still yellow on the euros? who has the best price on the euro lights? id appreciate any answers or tip on stuff i havent thought of thanks

The differences are numerous. Not only is the lens different but also the shape of the reflector. Additionally there are vacuum pods to raise and lower the lights.
Good luck, |

The fogs are not yellow on the euro's. I bought a yellow H1 bulb and it works pretty good.
As far as price try importvision.com install???......try this...euro headlights 4 dummies....

I think Bosch are worth the extra money especially if you run higher wattage bulbs. The TYC's are made in Taiwan and are of lower quality. I'm sure EBENZ will post some more information soon.

your still missing some good information!
First do you want driving lights or foglights?? I believe in the Bosch you are buying the E300/400 light assy. If you want driving lights that compliment the highbeams, you'll need to then order replacement E500 lenses. I'm talking W124 body. Have no idea of W210's. Michael

i am looking at lights for my own car as well, but im going to get my dad some euro's for christmas for his 350SD. so the regular euros have fog lights, but theyre white instead of yellow, and the 500E lights have driving lights. whats the difference?

I have seen some cars with Euro's and yellow fogs. They didn't just have a yellow bulb in them, but they had an actual yellow tint on them. I have seen about 6 cars with these Euro's on them. These are the kind I want, but I have no idea where to find them. I hope they're the same price as the regular Bosch Euro's. I specifically want Bosch lights, no cheap a$$ crap. If anybody has an idea of where to find these, let me know so I can buy some when I have enough money to buy them. |

Wouldn't a yellow tint in the lens reduce light output?
There are many good yellow bulbs available, such as the Philips Weathervision and Osram All Season. I think the Hella Yellowstar bulbs are OK too. These bulbs are specially made to produce yellow light to increase visibility in poor weather conditions - the bulb isn't just tinted yellow. |

1- Euro lights have a totally different lens and reflector than the nasty DOT lights. That's why they put out at least double the light from the same wattage. The stock DOT lights with 9004 bulbs are HORRIBLE. Using larger wattage 9004 bulbs just melts the connectors and does nothing for light output because the reflector & lens are so poor. 2- Yes the focus is TOTALLY different. There is a sharp vertical cutoff and a horizontal cutoff as well (which will vary for countries with left-hand traffic). 3- Larger bulbs in a Euro light actually put out more light. Don't use any larger than 100/80w H4's without adding relays. Using relays with any bulb (even the stock 60/55w) will increase output noticeably due to less voltage drop. Try the stock bulbs, if you want more light, you can always upgrade bulbs & relays later. There are numerous options for this which I won't bother describing now - wait until you have the lights on the car first.. ![]() 4- The DOT lights have a plastic lens with a yellow tint. The lens fades, gets scratched, and doesn't work all that great after a while. White bulbs in there still put out yellow light. The Euros have a one-piece clear glass lens. If you want yellow fog lights (some people prefer yellow for snow/rain, claiming less glare) you can get yellow bulbs. It's a personal preference thing. 5- Best price? Depends what you want. TYC and Depo are copies that can be had for under $300 on eBay (note the high shipping cost). The quality isn't as nice as Bosch/Hella, but the light output is fine. Real Bosch/Hellas will cost you $400-$500/pair. Best price I know of is from PUMA for Hella lights, with new orange turn signals, all 8 bulbs, electrical connectors, and instructions for about $425 shipped. 6- If you never use fogs and don't want them, and would prefer super-duty high beams, you can get 500E lights. PUMA has those for ~$525 shipped (all bulbs & connectors), or I just found a source in Germany that can get them for possibly $425 shipped to the USA (no bulbs or connectors). You lose all foglight function with these - keep that in mind. 7- You can't just swap lenses - you do need the whole Euro light assembly. Once you have the Euro lights, you can replace the lens separately if one breaks (they're about $75 each). 8- Shamless plug: I have a set for sale right now on eBay. Please help me get them out of my shop! ![]() ![]()

Yellow bulbs,
Yes, you can buy the french style bulb covers which will give you a yellow fog lamp color with Eurolights. Didn't think you could get the 500E style lights,b ut I stand corrected. I do think you still have functionality at the switch as if it we're fog lights. Ie your fog lights are now your driving lights. Dave, I'm putting my BOSCH W123 lights out there next week. Michael

Yeah, some bozo is claiming that you can't get 500E lights anymore, and coincidentally he's selling a set. Sounds like a ploy to jack up his selling price IMO. The 500E lights are still available, not all that cheap, and really need relays & wiring mods to work well (meaning you need to set it up so the inner driving lights come on with the H4 high beams, just like they do on a real 500E). Austin is working on a group buy for them, btw... he should have price quotes soon. My TYC's are still on eBay, $189 plus spare lens, no bids... **sniff**
