size of nut on alternator adj. bolt

I have misplace the large nut used in adjusting the alternator and would like to rig up a temp nut/washer to hold the alt in place. Anybody know what size nut would fit on the adjuster treaded rod used on the alt. The car is a 84 300D.
Thanks everybody for your help in getting to the problem of no dash lights. Will tear into the dash this weekend. This board rocks

If I were you, I would just thank God the nut went missing. That adjusting rod is an unnecessary complication that makes adjusting the belt more difficult. Get a long screwdriver or prybar, pry the alternator to the correct position and tighten the bolts. Just about every other car mfg in the world does not need that bolt. Why should you?

Kerry,

The adjustments is there because MB builds better cars than just about every other car mfd in the world. At least they used to.

I was working on the PS pump in my Chevy truck POS last SAT and I wished it had an adjusting bolt like the MBs have. I tried all kinds of prybars and it still isn't tight enough.
