Your right on the color thing, I will see about getting some samples to match it.
The PRODUKTIONS-DATEN page in the origional Maintenance Booklet for the 79 list item 8 as interior appointments and the code for that is 104. Anyone got an idea about that?

Ok, could you do me a favor. Look at my original post and then look at the picture I've attached. Is this the same color? (Or at least close?) I understand about fade/pink and all that...
Thanks, Pete |

Bamboo is #104
Note Bamboo is #104...
You have to be careful as some codes on the border years overlap, ie 1979 models were built in 1978, etc.

GottaDiesel, those seats are not from the '79 vintage, by the shape of the headrests. Just as I thought, as Palomino was not used in the '79 era.
So, I am certain that you have some later version seats there. FWIW, Palomino loses its color from sun but I also thought some cleaning stuff might cause it to get pinky like it does. I have two cars with the stuff, one, the '83, is much more original Palomiono. The '85 is Pinkomino (I love that name!) Oh yeah and the texture of MB Tex changed after about '79/80 too. The seats you showed were late type MB Tex. Proof positive.
If you have original MB Tex you will know what I mean. I think the early stuff was much stronger than later stuff IMHO. Dieseldiehard |

79-240d-project - that is Bamboo! and those ARE earlier version seats. my previous post related to the pictures someone posted, maybe not yours.
I like the way the earlier style seats feel, they have more firmness than later seats, whch were foam lined. Has the horse hair been replaced in your seats yet? Dieseldiehard |

I do not believe so. I am pretty sure this is all origional.

Nice looking interior for a '79 ! Schtic Shift too!
I am surprised the stuffing (seat pads) in that car has lasted this long, mine went out years ago. When it gets old it crumbles, you will see "stuff" falling out of the backside onto the floor behind the front seat. I replaced (or had them replaced) using OEM pads from World Upholstery. Looking at Bamboo I like it better than Palomino Dieseldiehard 1971 220 (gas) 4-spd manual 104041 1979 300TD w/ ’85 turbo engine 289560 1983 300D 237490 1985 300TD 206150 1975 300D (looking for an engine) |

Oh, another comment - see the door panels? they are nice, indicating that the car was not left out in the rain or humidity, You will find lots of door panels that have started to wrinkle. If you remove a door panel for any reason be sure to replace or repair the plastic liner underneath, it has some adhesive that is real sticky and usually gets torn arround the edges to gain access to the window regulator or vacuum diaphragms. I used clear plastic tape on the last one, its kinda sloppy but should serve the purpose.
Again, nice looking interior, I always judge a car by the interior and door panels and seats are places that a high mileage car can be seen for its history. Have you noticed cars with seats that are all worn out, torn, coming apart and the door panels look wrinkled, yet the sellers claim they only have 126K miles or some low mileage? Well, that is a sign of a likely speedometer rollback :p Dieseldiehard 1971 220 (gas) 4-spd manual 104041 1979 300TD w/ ’85 turbo engine 289560 1983 300D 237490 1985 300TD 206150 1975 300D (looking for an engine) |
