Question 92 300D 2.5 turbo -Take off injectors?

I need to find out the steps to take off my injectors. I am going to have them checked.

Shoud I mark them? Do the fuel lines have to go back in the exact place?
Is there an IN and an OUT? Any hints?

PROBLEM:
I have stared to notice lack of power at takeoff. More smoke is coming out under load ex) Freeway onramp. It does not have the pickup that it had before.

I punch it on the freeway=the car smoked a large large black puff ball. At idle and under a regular take off the car did not smoke.

WHO WILL CHECK:
I am going to take the injectors to a place called beuges(sp?) in City of Industry, LA. They said they would check them for free. Any horror tales about this place?

HISTORY:
The car had 300,000 miles on it. Last owner did not know if his mechanic had checked injectors.

Had the engine rebuilt. New turbo. Did not replace injectors. I have had to replace one glow plug after rebuild. Thank you to site for showing me how to check the glow plugs.

Thank you

Nick Mendoza

Nick,
Here is how you can get them off:

1. remove the return lines from all the injectors. These are the cloth lines on the injectors VS the steel lines. You will need to buy new return lines for re-assembly.

2. Unclip the plastic line holders. these are the plastic clips that keep the metal lines rom vibrating. Most of these will probably snap due to age and will need to be replaced.

3. Unbolt the metal lines from the injectors using an offset flare nut wrench or a crowsfoot wrench.

4. You now can GENTLY move aside the metal lines so that you can put a 27 mm deep thin wall socket to remove them. Be careful, the metal lines can get hairline cracks very easily.

If you have any questions, PM and I will give you my cell phone number. The jobis easy, but plan on keeping lots of rags close by, since fuel will spill out.

Just a thought

I recently replaced all my glow plugs.

I had to remove the intake to get them out. The injectors would be simple to work on at that point.

You might consider changing out the glow plugs while doing this job.

Just a consideration, I am in no way affiliated with bosch parts even though I buy more than I usually need.

Merry Christmas

If you want to replace the glowplugs, it can be done with the intake on, it just takes some manuevring. If you need help, let me know. I can do all 5 plugs in about 30 minutes. The trick I learned is an offset ratcheting box wrench, a 1/4 drive with 2 universals and go about actually removing them by sticking your hand under the intake, after you remove the CC assembly.

PS-Snap-on makes a ratcheting box wrench specifically for doing this job.

I second the change fuel filters first.

Also change the air filter

These things are cheap to do.

No adjustments or changes should be made until the simple stuff is done first.

You can do all this in under 1/2 hour of work

have fun

Also buy some lubro moly diesel purge and do that sometime soon.

Check EGR operation, too -- if it sticks open unded heavy load, it will smoke and produce poor performance.

update on injectors

I have changed both fuel filters. It made the car run a bit better. The lack of pickup is still an issue.

I will remove the injectors on Sunday to take them in for a free check. Remember they were on a car with 300,000 miles on the dash. The PO did not do anything as far as preventative maintenance. They just fixed the breakdowns.

Thank you all

also change the air filters.

Air is very important part of the combustion process. exspecially at higher loading.

just look at it and tell us if it is old.

Sometimes it is better to leave sleeping dogs lye.

Not that I practice what I preach.

good luck
