take it easy on us amateurs please

I have always tried to search before posting but on my last two posts have been slapped down in a very unfriendly way by experts telling me to use search. On the first occassion I did and eventually found what I needed but on the second still could not. The problem is those of us less experienced is that we dont always know what to search for exactly eg. dont know names of components etc.

Maybe when slapping us down a search word could be suggested?

I have tried to contribute something by making available a 50 photo step by step on dash removal and this has had over 1000 hits from this and other forums so i am not looking for a free ride.

Please be a bit more understanding if us amateurs aren't exactly sure how to search.

the fallacy of search

I don't wish to stir up a hornets nest with me being new guy and all, but one fallacy of using search always since stuff has obviously been answered before is you limit your answers to those given by members who may or may not be active now.

Example.. I ask what is your opinion about ABC?
If I post today: I may get member's A,B,C,D,E, and F to give me their thoughts..

If I did a search on ABC.. I may get the views of former members A, B, and C.. since D,E, and F were not members back in Feb 2004 or something. See my point?

If the question is objective, than a search is fine.. but if it's discussion based, and may have subjective content.. they maybe it merits being discussed every so often.

Anyway, I'm sure the majority disagree, but this is my view.

I have been using "Search" a lot...

And I'm seldom disappointed. "Search" works well, and I generally like the results.
Without the "Search" function, I would have posted a LOT more question topics, ergo revealing just how unqualified I am to take a wrench to any car.

How NOT to buy a MB Diesel:
Know little or nothing about diesels or Mercedes Benz.
Get the WVO fever.
Drive 70 miles to a used car lot in the country.
Buy the car without having it inspected, because it seems like a good idea at the time....
I'll be back. I'm gonna need help.
I love this car already!
