Funny that this comes up. I am driving to Savannah to pick up a 300TD tomorrow. Saw it on ebay, but it never hit reserve. I contacted seller and made a deal. But we have agreed if the car does not meet my expectations, I can get a full refund on my deposit. And I am not obligated to buy it since I didn't win it on ebay.

Here's the car:

Once I bid on a 300SD without looking, met the guy in Clemson SC to see the car (before auction expired) and was really disappointed in the car. I watched the auction end and was praying someone would outbid me at the last second (which did thankfully happen)!!

My thoughts on ebay are that its tough to find a steal. It's better for the seller rather than the buyer. I've seen some junk go for high prices....

My $0.02

I think I got lucky. Bought 83 300DT from small Pennsylvania dealer. He had really high positive feedback. I was particularly impressed with 'comes with all service records', and just as significantly disturbed when he later admitted, after looking at them carefully, that he only had some of them, and none from the last 3/4 years. But, told me he would ask the previous owner if I could give him a call. Turns out the p/o's brother had a shop, did all the work on it there.

Boxed myself in a corner, full payment before I saw it. Turns out it is in very excellent condition, with only the usual needs, and no rust. I would buy thru EBay again, a bit more carefully this time.
