This is for a 1983 300SD with 230K miles.

While i was driving in the rain on an interstate a few days ago, the wipers stop working in mid-cycle. It was a lot of fun slowing down to 60 mph to make sure the wipers are not working and then moving to the slow lane and making my way to the next exit.

Anyway, the fuse is alright, and I changed it just to make sure. The wiper motor seems to be buzzing too, but the wipers are not moving. It looks like something, some piece of hardware broke.

Anyone have any insights as to whether its a DIY (for a novice) fix? The local mechanic kind of blurted that its a PITA (maybe setting himself up for a ton of extra labor charges). Any recommendations on how I should proceed?
