pools of diesel (?) in injector holes of OM606 valve cover - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

Hi,

Engine is a non-turbo 606 from a w210 car (1996). Took the intake off to do the glow plugs. Noticed when looking in the holes of the valve cover, where the injectors are, that there are pools of diesel fuel mixed with some black junk in 4 out of the 6 holes.
Car runs fine, gets over 30 MPG, but I guess this is some sort of a leak from theinjector to the outside. I worry what could happen if enough fuel builds up there to start leaking overboard.

What could be the issue? What would the suggested fix be?

I have attached a pic of an OM606 (its a turbo from LightMan's post on how to change the gps) showing the areas that the buildup of fuel occurs.

Check the fuel return lines. I've heard of this happening many times on the 617, etc. I highly doubt that it would be the injector body...

JHZR2,

I had the light colored hoses running from injector to injector get worn down from vibration against the cover you have removed. So, I would be inclined to check those hoses out. The next culprit would be the mechanical connection to the injectors. I seriously doubt the injector itself is leaking.

On my car the smell of Diesel fuel was unmistakable and I went looking for a leak. These things are a bit more cumbersome to get off and back on on these engines since the injector is recessed in that hole. I used an old baster from the kitchen to suck the bulk of the Diesel out of the holes, then stuffed paper towels down and around the injectors using a small screw driver to tamp it down as far as I could get it. Be careful not to get the paper towel stuck or tear it while removing it. Good luck. Jim

After replacing my injector hoses 3 times in 3 months I went back to the supply house hose in hand. They gave me some new hose thicker and better looking. One month later its apart again . This time I went to MB dealer for some hose. When I compared the ID the benz hose was about .5 mm smaller. I will NEVER buy after market hose again.

Did a servicer check at the dealer, and the fel lines were all replaced a year ago. I did change one between the filter and the injectors because it was getting worn. ALso made a cover using some rubber hose to protect in the future.

All the connections to the injectors were tight, i didnt want to crank on them too much. All the fuel lines looked good as well, so I didnt want to pummon them (sometimes theyre real hard to remove.

I cleaned it up and will check again in a couple thousand miles to determine the rate of seepage.

With what it takes to get at the hoses, I would just change them all out. Your only talking about $15.00 in bulk length from the dealer. Believe me the way the injectors are they spill over from one to another and you will never really find the leaker. Unless youve had the steel lines off they wont just start leaking.
