Clean some of the horrible crud off the engine shocks if yours is half as dirty as mine were. I think its fairly likely that the SHOCK is OK but the elastomeric mounting at either end is shot. Look at the bottom rod and see if there is much relative motion to the shock body while a buddy rocks the engine side to side violently. It should be pretty obvious.
