OM616/617 Injection Pump

Does anyone know how to "turn up" the fuel pump on the OM616 and Om617 engines?

Black280CE,
I assume you have a NA 300D or 240D. I have 3 8 300Ds with the OM617 engine. Each is very different from the others, reflecting the different treatment they have had since new.

For Turbo 300Ds they turn up the fuel delivery in the ALDA, but this feature is not available on the NA engines.

I also would like to know the IP setup procedure for these engines.

Where in Oz are you?
Tony
ps, PM me if you would prefer to keep this off the forum.

for the 617, do a search in here for "drip method" Im not sure if the other pump is done the same or not.

Also there might be a link for a "DIY" in the thread at the top of this forum.

UPDATE: I just took a gander and yes there is a link to a DIY for timing the Injection pump.

TonyFromWestOz, I'm located in sydney.

I am not after how to time the injection pump, thats in the cd manual.

What i'm after is how to actually increase the volume of fule being injected. I plan to intercool and turbo my OM616 and to gain any performance i need to increase the amount of fuel being injected (as many of you know)

I'd really appreciate any pics of the injection pump behind the rear cover or procedure on how to increase fuel delivery.

Black280ce, Do a search on turbocharging, and you will find a lot of reasions for not turbocharging the OM616/617 engines. Although they are basically the same as the turbo diesel engines in the USA, they are not fitted with the oil sprays for cooling the pistons. This could result in damage (melting) to the pistons.

My reason for wanting to adjust the IP, is to optimise the engine power delivery. It seems that it could benefit from increased fuel delivery.

There are many reasons for and againts turbocharging a NA engine. There are plenty of well engineered aftermarket turbocharged 4wd running aroung in australia. I dont want to turn this thread into a pro/con turbo debate.

Lets stick to finding out how to adjust the IP

you need to take the plate off the rear of the injector pump (near the oil filter housing), when you remove it, it will leak a bit of engine oil.

Imagine looking directly at the rear of the pump, looking toward the front of the car. There is a screw with a locknut. loosen the locknut and turn the screw anticlockwise 1/2 at a time, reinstall the plate and test drive it.

don't let you exhaust temps get too high from overfueling

Cool, that is EXACTLY the info that has been asked recently, so this will bump it to where others can read it.

Just a quick note. There are a few adjustments on the back of the pump. The one you are after is the one at the very bottom of the pump which looks similar to the idle speed adjustment screw.

That picture shows the correct screw for increasing the full load fuel delivery. That screw is the same for the 616/617 and the 601/02/03 pumps.

If you want to change fueling on a turbo then that's a different story.
