Lightbulb NO MORE CLUTCH FAN! Electric fans HUMMMMMM nice

Well here is an update...... (nothing i am doing is either because the parts were worn off or broken! its for Performance, reliability, and do the best as i can to make my W126 Bulletproof and fast!)

EVERY SINGLE PARTS THAT GOES ON MY CAR IS EITHER MADE FROM GERMANY, MERCEDES-BENZ ORIGINAL PART'S, A BOSCH PRODUCT, OR BREMBO/ZIMMERMAN BRAKE PARTS i do not put any cheap crap in/on my cars only the Great OEM or High Performance German parts!

Hey well not i installed my new radiator AND i took off the "clutch fan" from the water pump pulley, no more cooling while the engine is already COLD, no more HP drain, no more BS! i estimated that usually a belt driven clutch fan ROBS from 6-8 HP. Since my F$CK*&G clutch fan was BAD and shaky like crazy, it probably robbed like 20HP lol

i installed new Hoses all around, new Thermostat, new electric cooling fans, new radiator, Sand blaster the water pump pulley, new water pump, New Transmission Air2Air cooling Radiator, new belts, new Mercedes-Benz dextron3 mercon3 ATM Fluid, new ATM filter/gasket, New Mercedes-Benz prestone and ah electric relay for the cooling fans.

Now i installed a GM V6 electric cooling fan, with a second smaller Bosch electric cooling fan. Instead of the clutch fan everything is now activated with a relay it can be set from 160* to 280* "that's what temperature the relay engages the cooling fans". I am going to set it at about 80 degrees "about 175*-180*" when actually the thermostat start's opening.

i will update this weekend i have to go for right now ill have more detail's this weekend! keep reading! Here enjoy some new pics! "might have to check my profile i cannot attach any files for some weird reason?"

"Estimate" all you like, its really closer to 1-2hp.

your probably not saving much hp with the electric fan. The load is just being shifted to your alternator.

Its way less bulletproof than a viscous clutch fan. You have relays, wires, motors, fuses (hopefully), connections that can come loose, and the added load cant be good for your alternator/battery/voltage reg

Thumbs up OEM water pump

OK well everything went well today i got the water pump pulley sand blasted and painted, everything that i removed was sand blasted and painted either black or Aluminum.

When i tried to swap the wheels off the 420SEL to the 300SD 14" wont fit the 420SEL 1986 damn it so i gotta put something on it, i can't just drop it on the disc brakes hahahaha

Oh yeah what i was posting about is well now i got this German replacement water Pump, and when i took off my Mercedes-Benz water pump the thing was mint! It made less noise then the replacement pump !!!!!!! daaaamn! so not i decided no to replace it just take off the rust and put it back on! wow Mercedes-Benz make parts that last forever this water pump is the original and never been changed and doesn't even make one little noise! it turn smoothly so f*ck changing it for nothing!

Tomorrow ill have an update on how things worked out!

Er, not quite. More like the 1/4 - 1/2 hp range. And by using a mechanical power -> electricity -> electric motor -> mechanical power arrangement of the electric fan you are using up at least twice the power as one directly driving.

The reasons for electric fans are usually either due to low engine RPM at idle, an A/C retrofit on an engine not originally designed for A/C, backup cooling, or a transverse mounted engine. It isn't to save power. If you look at current RWD vehicles they still use a mechanically driven fan for the primary cooling. It is simple, has the highest efficiency, and just plain works.

Good luck with experimenting with your car. I'm not trying to discourage you but rather to point you in directions where you won't be wasting your time and money.

okay I am very new at this but a 3 inch exhaust on a turbo deisel isn't that kinda silly, all the restriction of the system is in the turbo right? So putting on a 3 inch exhaust wouldn't really free up anything (if I am wrong here and very well could be sorry in advance)

Forced has it right

DieselFreak,
I admire your gusto, but Forced is right. Especially about the head. If you're going to spend the time and money on the intake and exhaust side, do something with the head as well. You will most surely be pleased with the results.

Wink YEAH well *****.....

I know Forced is always right ! lol i love him too! BUT BUT BUT i own my own Specialized Shop and in the same building there is a Custom Tuning shop, so i have done lots of swaps and trial and errors..... BUT i can confirm that clutch fans are *****ty and do free the engine and water pump from working harder! i did dyno runs with many cars with clutch fan/electric swaps and always showed the same result!

Anyways i admire a love this forum BUT even if i did what everybody wanted here, there will always be someone not liking it so ...... everything is done the best as i can and well done!

Forced by the way the W115 exhaust manifold i got for you is ready to ship, its all sand blasted for ya! i just gotta find time to ship it!

So guys lets keep on giving good positive thought's! i am taking out the electric head rest in my W126 420SEL and putting them on my 300SD! HELL YEAH !!!!

I got many news pictures for you guys to "criticize" about but the site wont accept them!?!?!?!? i have no clue why illl have forced figure out how.

By the way i did a huge burn out today with my 420SEL it felt great! i smoked up the whole shop hahahhahahahahah!!!!!! it was awesome!

So this week end the 300SD is getting pimped out !!!! Ill tell you guys out it worked out! thanks for the outputs and keep posting !!!!!!even if it negative!!!!
