How loud would it be/could I pull it off without looking totally redneck?
My flex pipe is gone, and the rear half of my exhaust is all kinds of clamped together and rusted. I'm really tempted to put a chrome stack through the hood, or possibly relocate the battery and send it through a small muffler and then out the fender wall(and up a chrome stack) How deafening would that be?

Instead of doing a stack (which would be pretty red neck and I am from WV so I know
![]() Why nor run either a straight pipe under the car OR do a side pipe like on the old Corvettes. It would not look totally redneck, OK semi redneck, and would be easier to do than cutting the hood and relocating the battery. Plenty of people here have done a straight pipe in place of the stock exhaust and they say it does not sound bad.

I don't know why but your post makes me want to do it insanely badly.
The side exhaust might be a little bit more practical.

Just straight pipe it, easier, Cheaper and sounds cool, but even cooler if its a turbodiesel

I take it NY state inspections don't say anything about exhaust? Or maybe you just don't care...? I was thinking of doing some... unconventional... exhaust routing until I realized it wouldn't be inspectable.. even a straight pipe is no good unless you know a guy.

They to a discretion type testing as per the noise. If I crank my VNT up it will reduce the exhaust noise to a whistle similar to a gasser.
I will probably go with a 2.25"-2.5" straight pipe that exits on the passenger side(Similar to FI's setup) I would go to 3", but my turbo's exhaust side is only 2.25" wide.

Why have a muffler when you have a turbo? I am still very tempted to have 3" stack through the hood with a flapper. Then again, I am a redneck.
