Hi Lee, this question was posted in the hot rod section
"This is a follow-up on the klatta-klatta noise that our C36 is making. We've noticed that it only makes it during idle, and it sounds like its coming from the timing chain/cam sprocket area. Via the diagnostic port, we can activate/de-activate the cam-advance solenoid. When activated, the sound is gone. When de-activated, the sound comes back. Does the intake cam sprocket assembly get noisy, or could this be chain stretch? Could this contribute to no high-end "umph"? " Because you use to own a C36 i was hoping that you could shed some insight into this situation. My C36 also makes this noise on idle, and when i asked an independent mechanic who works on exotic cars he said it was due to the plastic intake cover (i dont know but that does'nt sound to convincing to me). Any help you bring to this would be appreciated. |

Jman,
I posted a reply to this question in hod rods. The condensed version is as follows: though I personally do not recall a noise, I did have a problem with my 95 C36's cam advance mechanism. Benzmac did the fix personally. I suggest talking to him for the in depth of what he saw when he pulled it apart. Oh, and yes...if it isn't advancing the cam, you do lose a good bit of top end power. Hope this helps, Lee |
