Well, its not the ONLY one in the USA. I know a older lady (that I have not seen in about 2 years) that had a MB like that, but hers was gray in color. I was a 280SEL and had the 5-speed manual shift. I did not know alot about MBs the first time I saw it, but thought it was strange a W126 was a 5-speed. I did not know about "gray market" cars then. Last time I saw her, she was driving a 2007 Mercedes E-Class. Not sure if she still had the W126 280SEL or not. It was setting in her driveway for awhile when I last drove by there two years ago when I had a friend that lived in the neighborhood.

1984 280SEL

The 280SEL has finally/safely arrived and its not a repaint at all. The pics the seller had posted do it no justice The car is in incredible shape considering where it lived most of its life. The interior is stunning no wear anywhere at all to be seen! The engine starts flawlessly no valve tap cold or fully warmed up which takes less than 2 min. No smoke from the tail pipe when cold or hot. The trans shifts smoothly OMG i love that GETRAG!!!! the M110 has plenty of power and pulls very strongly to the RED LINE . When driving it under full accelleration i cant hear a noise inside the car almost silent! the quality of ride is extremely good i can hardly feel a bump in the road and its very firm in hard conering no roll that can be noticed GO EURO or dont go at all I still have not been able to locate even one single car like this anywhere searching and searching nothing yet except a report of a Little Old Lady who who owned one hmmmmmmmmmm and she drives a stick shift Id like to see that one,LOL I would like to personally thank Grapir for posting this car. As soon as i saw it i was on the phone 20 min later i had placed a deposit through paypal thankyou sooooo much.

I'm glad it ended up with someone who truly appreciates it and will take care of it.

The eBay site still had the pics of the car up yet and I noticed something that may, or may not, have anything to do with the makeup of the car, but in one of the shots of the speedo-cluster, the shift-points are marked for a 4-spd automatic, not a 5-spd manual...

Just curious...did MB have Veedo do a special speedo for 5-spds or not...and the "Unlead Fuel Only" sticker looks more like a Dyno-label than an MB sticker.

But then, it could just be me being a picky-chit...

Just curious -- are the rear plate mounting points painted or are they just close enough to the paint color to appear so? Could they indicate a respray at some point?

Neat car; I love the euro lights and bumper on the W126's. That front-on shot shows just how "clean" they look with those parts installed.

Now that's something I would sell my 300cd to buy. Provided there's money left over for a v8 engine swap.

Someone removed the rear plate holder.

I think they may have changed out the cluster in Federalization.

Right, but aren't those plastic clips where the screws go usually white(ish) plastic? They look like maybe they are painted in the pics, but I may well be wrong.

A Euro M110 and a 5spd are probly worth half what he wants for the car.
My w114 would fit quite nicely around em..

Not necessarily, you can order a factory delete for the trunk badges. Both my 79 280TE and my 82 280E parts car were ordered that way.

I can understand why a bottom of the line car would have a delete, but a top of the line....I dunno....

yes, in the ad it shows the original paperwork (allegedly) and it lists a badge delete. as to why, well...?

would the lesser weight of the m110 make a significant difference, and allow the smaller engine to actually give this car some pickup? my 84 w126 weighed 4200lbs, and i can't imagine driving it without the 5.0 v-8 ?

The car is about 15 mins from me if anyone wants me to look at it... only if you are serious though.

Driver's door has some weirdness going on with that dent and apparent repaint. For a 5 speed and the super-duper-long body I would sell my 300cd, though.
