The cops pretty much ignore those tags. I've seen them on all sorts of heaps, and on very few "historic" vehicles (except for my 300TD, of course). I suppose they'd nail you if you got yourself in an accident due to brake failure on your way to work in a car that had one of those. Otherwise, you're free to go about your business.
