Ebay "Cold Air Intakes" (???)

I was just looking at these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...&category=38634

What I like about this setup is that it appears that it would make oil changes a snap as you could get to the oil filter (on my 88 2.3L 190e) w/o removing the factory air box.

What I need to know is what rubber boot they're using. The rest I could manage on my own, I suspect. Certainly not worth $140! Is te boot something that's already mass-manufactured for Porsche/Audi/VW/etc...?

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Chris

The boots are easy to find if you take the pipe you are using and go to your local hardware store. They can be found in the sewer pipe section for sewer jounts (or regular drains) Be careful with the ammount of hot air let into the motor, you could lose power.

I'd like to have the proper boot, though, so I have accomodations for the valve cover breather hose, a lip for the hose clamp, and so on. For the angle boots that will go down at the filter and of things, yes, I agree... hardware goods would suffice.

Thanks!

Chris

Bad idea...........the turbo gets way to hot for that........

Silicone boots is what you want.............they handle the heat.

vw/audi boot

that's a boot off of a vw 4cyl/audi 5cyl k-jetronic cis car. They are VERY plentiful in the junkyards for like $5, and will take a lot more heat than the neoprene sewer couplers from home depot, those things get soft and tear under the hood after a month or so (I've tried).

Most of the "cold air" intakes on ebay actually suck in hot air. You have to fabricate a heat shield of some sort or run the intake pipe/filter and mod it into the bumper area for cold air.

vw

I have installed this kit for customers before. The rubber boot is of an older CIS VW. Taking a guess here but try and early 80's jetta
