I was watching Car and Driver Television this morning when they aired a show about how Caddy is trying to answer BMW's M series, Mercedes AMG and Jaguar XKR. Tim Allen (you know home improvement) had the idea of Creating TAD. Short for Tim Allen Development. Basically they took a Caddy Deville, tuned the Northstar Engine to 398 hp and 361 foot pounds of torque, suspension, and some body work. The car looks pretty good. John boss helped them create that Caddy and the car did well on the track.

0-60 was 6.7 seconds.

This thing is supposed to compete with the S-CLass AMG right? , then S-Class AMG does 0-60 in 5.8. Its still a Caddy, however they are making some progress.

I personally would give very little credit to anything Tim Allen does. Like you said, it would still be a Caddy. They can tune it all they like, they may make it faster, but they very likely wouldn't make it any better. There will still be tuned-up Honda Civics that will out run it. I owned a Deville for 5 years and frankly would pay for another Benz before I'd take a free Cadillac. I think that if Cadillac keeps going with these freaked out Evocs and wacko garbarge like that they may find themselves out the door like Oldsmobile. I would find that no great loss.

I heard that the new Caddies, are supposed to be "contenders on par with Mercedes-Benz, and Lexus for the summit of the Luxury car market" (I forgot who quoted it but, remember the quote very well). I heard that Cadillacs are supposed to be rear wheel drive and have better quality than before. The Deville produces only 361 foot pounds of torque. S55 (its direct competitor has 391 foot pounds) The Caddie goes from 0-60 in 6.7 seconds, slower than a bone stock E430. I don't think that Caddie is going to go out the door like Olds, because Caddy is a GM "legend" like the Corvette. They will never get rid of those makes because if they do, what will G.M have left.

Whatever happened to the Steinmetz Opel/Catera? It was a radical idea for Cadillac, maybe too much so.

Cadillac owners are too conservative to have high performance cars. They like the plsuh jelly ride.
