No, V-8' & V-12's still start in second. Also selecting "W" mode on cars w/electronic trans will select second gear take-off.

Hey, try this, it's an old trick I used on my former '84 190E. Now I have a manual 5-speed 16V. Anyway, While you are in drive at a stop light holding the brake, drop the gear knob to the "2" position, then back up to "D", then back down to "2". Now you should start in "1st" gear!!!!! Might just be a 190E thing though. But it's worth a shot. Later.

Regards,

Clinton Davis

On my 300E, when/if I want a first gear start from a stoplight, I move the selector from D to 3 and then 2, then back up to D. Starts in first gear no matter how slow or fast I accelerate from stop.

My '92 190E 2.6 starts in first every time, I don't know if the previous owner changed something or what, cause my 300 starts in second and I can do the stop and move the stick to 2 thing and will work to. I think is been like that for a while with MB, cause my ex- '79 280E shifted the same way.

some cars, like the 560SL and 500E have a "B" position on the gear selector. When at a stop, select this position. You can then shift back to D, or you can manually work it back up through the gate.
No matter how you attack the throttle the car will start in first
