Hi guys...

Being a full grown male Korean citizen, I'm going off to the Army in 2 weeks to serve a 2 year and 2 month manditory army service. Bootcamp date is set on the 12th of Feb. I just wanna say, it's been nice talking to you guys, and a real pleasure posting on this site. I won't be able to make any contact with the outside world for about 100days, so I won't be able to post until June, I think. Anyways, it's been a pleasure, and I think you guys are the coolest bunch of MB lovers I've ever seen. take care, and keep up the good work.

Chuck

Chuck:

Maybe they will let you near a computer to check in once in a while - don't disappear forever. Good luck, save all your pay, and make a down payment on an AMG when you get out!

Good Luck hkoh,

I hear the Korean Army is VERY hard on its soldiers, but I'm sure you can take care of yourself.

I hope you have been eating plenty of "Wheaties", and muscle building Kimchi!

Question for you, how long is Boot Camp?

Thanks guys. Yeah I've heard that it's really tough in there, but I'm sure I'll make it back in one piece. Boot camp is exactly 6 weeks. So 6 weeks of no phone, no visitors, and definitely no Mercedes.

Remember what Nitsche said: "That which does not kill you makes you stronger". I hope your Basic goes well-as a Military Vet I assure you it'll be something you won't forget!

Best of luck!

I wish you the very best we know that you will make it. At what age do thy make you join he military? I almost feel bad for you, having seen the movies like 'full Metal Jacket" and etc, I would fear boot camp and the military very greatly, (that is unless its the Navy or Coast Guard of which I'm a auxiliary member) Good Luck and keep in contact with us.

Good luck to you in the bootcamp. Learn something useful while you are in the military -- like how to get a tour of duty in Germany, and sneaking a neat MB back home.

What division of the armed forces are you going into? Army, Navy, Airforce, or Marines. When I lived in Korea I had a few friends who just got out of their compulsory service in the Marines. NOt easy by any means, but they had a lot of good stories. Good Luck and we'll be waiting to hear from you when you get a chance.

Thanks a lot guys. I'm overwhelmed by all your good luck wishes. The minimum age for the military here is 18, and people usually go between the ages of 18~23. I'm 25, so I guess I'll be sort of an "old timer" there. I'm going to the Army, but I had considered the Air Force for a while, but I got picked to be based in the US-Korea joint headquarters just outside of Seoul after bootcamp. And since I grew up and lived most of my life in the states, this is still mind-boggling for me, But I think I'll be fine. Who knows, maybe I'll be able to drive around in a Hummer.

Chuck

Also, anyone have any tips on long term storage for cars?

Beating up a Hummer

Next to a 600+ HP '62 'vette I drove, a Hummer was ABSOLUTELY the most fun I ever had in a motor vehicle; gotta love it when the Motor Sergeant tells you to "...try to break it". And try I did! Even buried it up to its bumpers in wicked-sticky mud, then violently yanked it out with 2 other Hummers using a long length of telephone pole guidewire (with a lot of slack in it...could simply NOT believe we didn't yank off the tow couplings!!).

One of my better days in the service of the US of A, I must say

Try the Coast Guard or the Navy. Most of the time you have your own bunk, room, and spend a lot of time doing nothing. Thats what the guys at the coast Guard Station do for quite a time. However when help is needed there is a great feeling when you help someone. How long did you live in the states for, and why didn't you stay.?

Chuck,

One week left, you better start partying while you can!

BTW, the Hummer is a DOG in a straight line, if you get a chance flog it for all its worth, but don't get caught!

Michael,

I had my way with the Hummer every day for a year in upstate NY, lets just say the transmission overheats way to fast for my liking while playing in the dirt! Manual shifting of the auto at speed has its limits.

I concur, very, very FUN!
