Speak of the....oh, hi folks.
To "clear the air" on the 500E vs Vette issue. My experience was that stock Vettes were a good run to 60 or so, but not beyond. Never tangled with a ZR1, and I'm rather glad of the fact. I locked horns with a C5 convertible at the dragstrip one day. I was running a bit faster than he was but I suspect that was due to track conditions being hot and slippery as hell. His ultra low end torque setup was having trouble hooking up on the track when it was 110-115 F trackside. Obviously the 500E didn't like the temp, but I was able to get in 1-2 good runs before high engine temps put an end to the fun. In fact, the only time I got beat, and I mean REAL badly, in the 500E was when I pulled up next to a otherwise normal looking C5. Just as the light went green, I saw the "Mallet 435" badge on the fender. I barely had enough time to think "oh $#*&" and he was gone. From highway speeds, I like my chances against a Vette (ZR1/Z06 excluded). 0-60 is a bit closer...the 500E doesn't really show its true potential till about 80 mph. Not too many places you can explore beyond that range... That said...don't try a vette (or 500E for that matter) in a C36 unless the driver is sleeping. Not too long ago Benzmac and I met up with Vacula (and his B.Silver 500E) at the drags. Despite pulling over 3/10's advantage at launch and running the quickest ET of the day for the C36, the 500E still had caught the C36 by 60'. As we all know...from midtrack on is when the fun begins...if you are a 500E owner. By the time the 1250 run was over, I was eating my humble pie about 1/2 second later. Either way, it was a blast to run the cars together. The local bubbas sure seemed to get a kick out of it as well...congrats again Tim. |

all systems GO
All:
FYI - I smogged my 500E, today (ah, the benefits of being unemployed and having lots of free time to woship one's car): I passed, completely and without incident. (I will remind everyone that I have the Timevalve "Y" pipe.) No problem! |

In the interest of a comparison, any one that wants to drag in the New England area, I've got a '92 that likes to stretch its legs!
...and the offer is hereby extended to any/all non-ZR-1 or Z04 (C4 or C5) 'vettes that would like to put this matter to rest. It's "put up or shut up" time! I'm tired of bench-racing; may the quicker car win. And if I do lose, at least I'll be able to take 3 friends with me to go cry in my beer!

Ummm. I'm wondering.... So bottom line can a 500E beat a
C-5 Vette? Just Curious. Today I saw a 2001 Saleen SC 281 (Sc as in Supercharged) with guess what: THE GENIUS OPTED FOR THE AUTOMATIC) Could a 500E take out cars of similar type: Cobras, and Auto-Saleens.
