I'm thinking of putting a RB26DETT on a W124 wagon. It'll be the fastest wagon ever!

I lived in japan for 18 yers. worked on some skylines. you need to keep in mind when something breaks it will take two weeks to get any parts. for your intrest my 650hp skyline took $42000 in parts.

I came to this board to find out info on just such swaps!

I had thought the RB26 would be a great swap into one of the V6 AWD Benz's and use the Skyline AWD engine/tranny and have a very nice AWD turbo setup.

I was pondering the Toyota Supra 1/2JZE swap into something like a 190/300 or some such Benz (whichever have the straight 6 in them, forgive my ignorance!)

I was worried about all sorts of ECU controlled Benz stuff going wacky if you removed stock engine/tranny/etc. Any further input? I saw a 190 go on ebay for less that $500 and that planted the seed!

Hi,
My friend put a 1jz, big turbo and gearbox in his 220E and is quite happy with it.
Did most of the work himself.
Said it wasn't too difficult but he got someone else to do the electric work.

Things break, break badly, and break often, when you get over about 1.5 hp / cubic inch. Unless you buy very expensive parts. Regular aftermarket does not, repeat, does not, guarantee quality. Trust me on this.

Unless you are quite loaded, bore and stroke the 3.0, add a turbo and intercooler, or a blower, use stock MB parts, and you'll have a reliable car. And quite a bit of money left over to do other fun things.

Personally I don't think the rb26 would be a cost efficient option. by the time its done you'll have spent like 40k and you'll never recover that if you sell the car. Aside from the fact that I hate nissans that is a good motor but power per dollar is very poor. It may be a better idea to swap in a chevy motor or even a 2jz. The 2jz is a superior engine to the rb26 in my opinion. Stock rb26 makes 276 horse and the stock rods and pistons will not handle over 400hp crank not over 650. The 2jz makes same level of power and parts are not rare. this holds especially if you have to use nissan driveline. imagine the cost in custom work.P.S. the 2jz is i think like 3 liters and the rb26 is 2.6. no replacement for displacement.

IMO toyota 1jz/2jz are way better than nissan I6's
AND exhaust exits on passenger side, like benz

Umm... everyone I've talked to in town has a 3K ceiling on a Supercharger/Turbo one off for the Mercedes I6??? And its a better engine to start with?

Similar

A mechanic friend of mine would say that looking at Nissan and Mercedes 6cyl engines of the 60's and 70's, they were very similar in design.

Of course they were. Every nissan/Datsun engine/trans/body design is similar to something German/English/Italian made before it. I dont know if they ever used to but they've recently come to admit it, the 350Z designers admit to "borrowing " from the Audi TT design, like it needed to be said. Which begs the question, why not stick with the vastly superior original?

Well, I don't know how hard you run your engine, or what were the dyno correction factors you used to get your 3.5 per, but if you ain't breakin it, you ain't using it.

Or you ain't got it.

I can put my motors on a dyno and indicate 1500 hp if you'd like. Or maybe even 2000. But all they really are is a lowly 750 hp at 572 cid. All depends what I put in as correction. I don't want to fool myself. Don't trust your engine builder to be honest with the HP he says he developed.

At 1.5 hp/ci, expect a 100 hour rebuild in an engine that is in its torque range about 75% of the time. At about 2.5hp per, expect 50 hours. Your 3.5 is at a very high rpm. How much time is actually spent there? If you are there 1% of the time, you can get lotsa hours.

Top fuel gets about 1,500 revolutions between teardowns, 750 revolutions to do the 1/4 mile. That's at about 12 hp per cid.
