Smile New 300E guy

Thank you for the AMGish look.
Is the engine stock 177HP?
Are you moding the engine?
Amg cars are much faster then the 3.0 W124.

LOVE IT>

I'm working on mine.

Wish it was a 5sp. Has anyone done a Tranny Swap?

That car is a e420 which is rated for 275hp out of a 4.2l v8, named the m119. The 300e has a 177hp 3.0l I6, named the m103. The AMG models are indeed faster. The m103, which your car has, is capable of immense power when turbo charged(check the stickys, 12v turbo thread). You can swap the tranny with a 190e 16v 5 speed.

Auto or manual?

A 5-speed manual tranny swap is somewhat complicated, and moderately expensive. But the two main drawbacks are that the factory 5-sp manual trans can't handle any serious horsepower, and 5th gear is not an overdrive.

A 5-speed auto tranny swap is very complicated and very expensive ($5k+), but it can handle over 500hp / 500tq without complaint, and 5th gear is a 0.82 overdrive, allowing a lower rear diff ratio. This is definitely the way to go - if you can afford it!

I'm putting a TT kit on my 300CE and have been wondering about the manual tranny issue myself. Is there any manual tranny which would take the increased power and match up with the M103?

Yes, but not factory Mercedes manual trannies... you'd have to put an aftermarket unit in there, which will be more difficult & expensive. Not many people have ever done this.

well if ur tq is abt 300lbft, the close ratio of the 300-24 should be good enough, and at worst fit the bmw M5 box, but i think they are almost the same. and the CR box has a gr8 shift - feeling to it.

i my self still consider this box on my w124.

The best manual trans from mercedes is the Getrag unit fitted to the 16v models. Roman used them with his beast although the 650hp was a little too much for them.

What a bad azz look on that e420!

I like HMS, they have done work on the 560SEC and on the '08 Outback I used to own, great place.
